CTM 2024 Berghain Night 5

  • Mars Morningstar (an alias of Quest?onmarc) brings unbridled dance energy and raw precision to sets that explore harder facets of the global sound palette. Appearing as the duo Soulsick, Elvin Brandhi and DJ Scotch Egg will join forces in a fierce flurry of improvised vocals and hardcore. Brandhi never shies from being abrasive, letting a stream of consciousness take over to the tune of frenetic, computerized beats intent on scorching your speakers. Berlin-based Japanese screwball producer Shigeru Ishihara aka Dj Scotch Egg (WaqWaq Kingdom, Scotch Rolex) has been active for over two decades ever since rising to breakcore (and Gameboy gabber) fame after co-founding Brighton’s Wrong Music with Shitmat, Roger Species, and others. »PTSD« is a reflection on the trauma, despair and perturbation brought on by suicide and the grief that follows, blending hardcore, ambient, and ASMR elements into a musical diary of recent years. This world premiere presented at CTM will be channelled on stage by Virgen María as a liberating ritual of ecstasy and catharsis against the backdrop of Naive Supreme’s extreme take on club music. A UK underground fixture and leading innovator in fresh genres spanning the hardtek scene, Mandidextrous will bring a diverse combination of high energy 4x4 dnb, speedbas, jungletek keeping true to their 4x4 175bpm style. High energy from start to finish. The sounds of Lobster Theremin and Never Sleep affiliate Infinity Division move through the world of dance music with blistering speed, fusing elements of industrial and electro, with a penchant for melancholic trance-infused melody, through a distinctly punk lens. Multidextrous misfit Uxile, co-founder of the Unguarded label shaking up tired techno tropes, creates sets mixing off-kilter post-club and electro-acoustic sensitivities. Under his Special Request alias, UK techno & house linchpin Paul Woolford takes as his inspiration the unruly conventions of UK pirate radio stations, capturing the raw energy of illegal airwaves via murky house, darkside techno, and eye-of-the-storm hardcore/jungle tear-outs. Lisbon-based Príncipe don DJ Narciso infuses a dark and playful twist into batida, tarraxo and kuduro, exhibiting a skillful balance between the moody and the whimsical. A resident of Accra’s Oroko radio, Moneyama takes part in exploring and deconstructing the narrative of African and diasporic artist communities and presenting them in new ways, with healthy doses of dance and UKG. Nyege Nyege regulars Golden Girl$$$, the Tanzanian dance queens turned musicians Nana and Zai who set Panorama Bar on fire at least year’s festival, will roll out singeli hits peppered with vocals at a minimum of 200 bpm. GЯEG’s influences span a spectrum that includes house, disco, Afrobeat, jazz, and dancehall. His DJ repertoire reflects a captivating fusion of these influences, creating a luscious sonic tapestry for the dance floor both innovative and intoxicating. Closing out the sonic mayhem of four straight days of Berghain, will be former Hercules and Love Affair collaborator Kim Ann Foxman, whose classic takes on dance music synthesise the best elements of raw house, propulsive 303 material, emotive techno, and the occasional hint of trance into an irresistibly ravey experience. Note: The previously listed artists E-Saggila, Kampire and Or:la have withdrawn from the festival.
