Psycho Thrill Cologne presents theeee SONS OF ACIDO 'Acid Carnival' [33 years of PSYCHO THRILL]

  • We're back again on track in our hometown so Psycho Thrill Cologne presents theeee SONS OF ACIDO "Acid Carnival" [33 years of PSYCHO THRILL] ... "60 House hallucinate thrills" a minute. There's no escape! WHY WE GET BACK TO COLOGNE'S RING AREA! Some of U might have probably asked yourself why, after 6 years of Psycho Thrill Cologne BNKR and another 7 years of Golzheim/GHM episodes, we finally chose the BOLLWERK at the Cologne Ring area as a special venue for our 33rd anniversary. But there are several obvious reasons for this if U look more closely at it. Claus Bachor/ Cls Bchr and Roland Casper experienced a not insignificant part of their own socialization as clubbers and their later DJ careers through this club when it was still called the legendary MOROCO in the early 80s. And it was precisely here that one of their common DJ idols, Carol Martin, worked there for many years behind the decks, which still means the world to both of them till today. And Martin himself was that Cologne DJ protagonist, at the turn of the decade into the 80s, who really made the stylistic leap from his FusionRock, Soul, Funk, Jazz-Funk, and Disco repertoire, including through other legendary club stations such as RITZ and COCONUT, to so-called "NewWave-Disco-Punk-Funk-Rock" or "Mutant Disco", which in retrospect can now be seriously cited as the proto-electronic basis of Techno, House, and Acid. At the MOROCO - where the Düsseldorf Kraftwerk Guys often celebrated together with their best friend Carol - Kraftwerk's own "It's More Fun To Compute" or "Neon Lights", George Clinton's "Computer Games", Human League's "Being Boiled", Man Parrish's "Hip Hop, Be Bop (Don't Stop)", Fingerpritz "Wet Job", or Herbie Hanckock's "Twilight Clone" to ZaZa's "Zauberstab" were played continuously alongside others. Everything that has defined timeless sound value and fundamentals in this respect to this day. And curiously enough, the mighty MOROCO was pretty much located exactly there on the opposite side of a basement disco on Cologne's Hohenzollernring, which subsequently gained worldwide recognition in magazines such as THE FACE and I-D as the also legendary RAVE CLUB in 1988/89 as the first West German program club for Techno, House, and Acid. Back then there, Bachor and Casper were already pioneering their turntablism for the Rhine Area club scene. And in their own way, they fundamentally were the first in the Dome-city to define those electronic sounds, that were recently reflected and given historical recognition in the film documentary "The Sound Of Cologne". Subsequently, with intermediate stops such as Space Club, Warehouse, and Elevator, "Psycho Thrill Cologne" emerged in 1991 as a regular club event as well as a vinyl label. And 33 years later, it is now returning to the historical MOROCO location (via BOLLWERK COLOGNE), which, based on this history, can also be considered as the initial midwife of Psycho Thrill itself. So this is just another circle closing for this time so far. In addition, the two new Bollwerk front people Gesa and Dirk have promised, in addition to massive sound reinforcement, to make the lower dance floor level of the club as dark and sinister as possible in the typical BNKR feel with its floor flashlights and many more. Everything in the end is once again true to the classic Psycho Thrill Cologne motto: "There are no rules, fear is unknown and sleep is out of question!"
