Drumcell returns to BASEMENT for another headlining set. Constructing his sets out of raw noise, he builds remarkably sturdy, grit-caked beatdowns that walk a tightrope between nimble elegance and brutish nihilism. There’s a snarling, simmering disdain baked into his tracks; titles like “Rooted Resentment,” “Disturbance” and “Severance Check” speak to a seething, no-BS worldview that has been sorely missed in techno the last few years. Kangding Ray’s spiraling, experimental and sumptuous approach cuts (mostly) in the opposite direction. There remains, however, a cinematic, wideview grandeur and horror in his works. His painterly approach brings to life dystopian vistas as well as mossy textures, subaqueous worlds and cerebral journeys inward. Fresh off a debut at RUSH, ÆON returns to throttle the room. The Flux founder brings the knowledge and attention to detail of a certified head, as well as the visceral impact of a true raver.
There is only one Carry Nation. The duo of Nita Aviance and Will Automagic is one of the most essential DJ units in the last two decades of NY dance. Queer icons, house divas, tireless diggers and visionary organizers: The Carry Nation is all these things, and more. They contain multitudes and miracles. But you already know all that. Everyone does. They hold court once again at STUDIO, this time joined by Ian Crane and NSPERFER. Crane is the founder of State of Bliss, a party series whose name doubles as a manifesto. His sets speak for themselves: rolling, colorful, and undoubtedly blissful. Chilean artist NSPERGER adds a dash of hectic euphoria and a dollop of sleaze. His sets blow off some steam with the dedication of a true believer.
