- Join Arts Catalyst for a hypnotic and sensorial evening of live experimental electronic music by Nkisi, KMRU and Ashley Holmes at SADACCA’s GMill, with sound provided by Sinai Sound System. Expect ambient dream-like noise, dark synthesiser melodies, hyper-modern relentless club sounds and intricate Afrocentric percussion. The event is part of Skylarking, an exhibition and public programme by Sheffield-based artist, DJ and broadcaster Ashley Holmes, that explores the relationship between landscapes, music and belonging. Nkisi is a visual artist, musician, DJ and producer creating futuristic and powerful sonics influenced by ancient Kongo rhythms, rhythmic noise, our planetary electromagnetic grid, and experimental improvisation. She has performed her electrifying and energetic sets widely across the UK and Europe. Sound artist and producer KMRU is internationally acclaimed for his ambient experimental music releases, creative compositions, installations and performances. His works use methods of field recording, improvisation, noise, ambient, machine learning, radio art and expansive drones. Ashley Holmes is a multidisciplinary artist working across sound, video, radio broadcasts and performance whose work explores the language, sound, movement and foundations of Black musical tradition. He also hosts Tough Matter, a radio programme broadcast monthly on NTS Radio. Sounds from the Ground is a series of workshops and performances that explore landscapes and ecologies through sound. A bar serving alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks will be available. There are no cloakroom facilities. This is a standing event.
