In times when algorithms and artificial intelligence are increasingly replacing the human element in our everyday lives, the longing for interesting characters is growing. Paula Tape is one such character. This is reflected not least in the Chilean artist's musical style, which is difficult to pigeonhole and therefore stands out from the crowd in a refreshing way. Balearic, Italo Disco and Deep House are the basic ingredients, while the often percussive coloration is based on her past as a drummer in metal and indie bands from Santiago de Chile. Wait, doesn't that ring a bell in every Heiner's ear? That's right, a certain Ricardo Villalobos has also conquered the world – via a stopover in Darmstadt – from the Chilean capital. If you look at her jam-packed tour calendar, Paula Tape is well on the way to following in Villalobos' footsteps. As a self-taught producer, Paula Tape also relies on her diverse trademark sound, which has earned her a release on Bradley Zero's highly respected Rhythm Section label, among others.
No less interesting is the background of our second guest Niklas Wandt. As a radio host, the Berliner-by-choice digs deep into all varieties of Jazz; as a DJ and producer, his approach is more electronic. Forward without being blunt. Playful without losing focus. Someone who hits the nuances that others struggle with.
Our "local tour guide" for the evening is Lukas Lehmann. His wide-ranging musical palette, from Nu Disco to Organic House and groovy Techno, makes the Galerie resident the perfect connecting link in the trio.
