ŠELEST #8: Dj Haram + Pekodjinn + DJ K

  • Eclectic beats from dancefloors across the globe will once again melt together during the club night Šelest. The eighth edition will bring together a bass-heavy live set of Hyperdub affiliate DJ Haram, an eclectic fusion of North African rhythms by Pekodjinn and the avant-garde baile funk of DJ K, as well as local DJs with similar appetite. This time we’ll meet on the board of Altenburg 1964 on the 1st of June. DJ Haram (live) DJ Haram, based in Brooklyn, is a multifaceted electronic and rap producer as well as a DJ renowned for her bass-heavy club sets and carefully crafted analogue sound design. As one-half of 700 Bliss alongside Moor Mother, they released the critically acclaimed album Nothing to Declare on Hyperdub Records in 2022. With residencies at Brooklyn's Lot Radio and performances at stages of Berghain, Unsound, or Sonar, DJ Haram's debut solo album, set to release in 2024, promises a diverse sonic palette and more experiments to come. DJ K DJ K started producing funk tracks when he was only 17 and since then dug deep into the contemporary Brazilian baile funk culture. Since his debut album on Nyege Nyege Tapes DJ K has pushed the boundaries of sound with his hallucinatory experiments. Drawing inspiration from São Paulo's bailes and their atmosphere of Brazilian funk, DJ K's sonic alchemy connects the body to his software and "paredões" technologies, creating his radical musical framework. Pekodjinn Pekodjinn, a Geneva native and co-founder of collectives Ozadya and Nufrika, is a versatile artist known for his exploration of North African sounds and Afro-house percussion.
