- The time has come: Detroit’s DJ Bone returns to BASEMENT. Since the beginning, Bone has pursued a rigorous, virtuosic technique. As a DJ, his name was solidified by his multi-deck, all-vinyl sets, where he layered and collaged techno with second-to-none precision. In an era where digital DJs can sync four decks with the push of a button, Bone proves it's possible to do it all with your hands and ears alone, and make it sound even better. On his own Subject Detroit label, he extended the Afrofuturist lineage of his hometown, presenting techno as impactful and forward-thinking as it is soulful. Devoye is back. The Bronx-born artist returns to the club following an outstanding set for Dweller in February. Flexing a remarkable versatility, Devoye is fluid enough to draw from many corners of dance music and make it work. A techno set is always a treat. He infuses the genre with a sensuality that only enhances its latent danger. Elle Dee completes the lineup, banging it out with her unwavering focus. Elle Dee is a mainstay at BASEMENT, and it’s no surprise. The Mild Fantasy founder taps into a rigorous and thrilling power. Fellow Detroit’er Marcellus Pittman returns. In his hands, house music flutters and throbs with languid, dusty ease. His productions are perfect examples of that indelible swooning quality of deep house, where the energy is split between infused chill out and deceptive drive. Pittmann juggles time, taking you into a fluid, sensual space. Mike Servito flips the script with some livewire intensity. NY’s premier maestro of jacking house brings the core legacy of Chicago into the modern era. Whipcrack percussion edges the dance into the feverish and unhinged. “I just like things at 110-percent full-party mode,” he told XLR8R. “I want people to feel it. I don't have time for dull moments.” It shows. Fellow traveler Lauren Flax knows exactly how to set it off. A true local hero, Flax’s tireless commitment is unmissable.
