  • Lasermagnetic get together again to bring you some festive fun, with 'Winter Wonderland', where we welcome the able hands of Kelvin Andrews and Tokyo native, London based producer Free Disco, who also runs the ace Strange Desire Imprint. Upstairs sees Shameless Disco host their Xmas Throwdown with special guests Bicep (Throne of Blood) & residents Aaron Coultate (Juno Plus) & Charlie Watson, playing the finest in house disco, funk & boogie. Kelvin, well known for his Soul Mekanik productions and more recently, the Creative Use label, has DJ'd for more than 25 years explains his musical conviction and roots like this: “After discovering disco and funk as a young teenager, I started doing the DJ thing by throwing parties in my hometown of Stoke playing whatever I could get my hands on… dubbed out, New York sounds like D-Train or Man Parrish right next to Gina X, Telex and Roxy Music… maybe Talking Heads into Earth Wind & Fire or Kraftwerk… my style was really borne out of the necessity to play for hours and keep people interested, I’d experiment with spoken word records and drop in American TV themes, comedy snippets and sound effects… basically I’ve been developing that style ever since. I’ve always loved that maverick, off the cuff and spontaneous DJ approach, old and new records, lots of underground, Leftfield disco and house , eastern and european pop sounds, dub, latin, afro, acoustic, electronic and even rock… if it sounds right… It’s all about creating an underground party vibe.” Free Disco has had records out on labels such as Rong & Steve Kotie's Bear Funk. His most recent work, have appeared on on his own Strange Desire Imprint, with remix duties by Yam Who. Strong support comes from London's Disco scene, with Andrew Weatherall charting Strange Desire and Djs such as Richard Sen, Faze Action and Max Essa fully supporting it. It is hard to believe that Free Disco plays all instruments himself, and it is his excursions into the different territories and dark alleys of disco land that make him so versatile. We at Lasermagnetic HQ are looking forward to welcome the one man psychedelic boogie band (and one time rare japanese brazilian record collector) to our December 'Winter Wonderland' show. Joining Charlie and Aaron for the Shameless Disco Xmas Throwdown will be the chaps known as Bicep. With a debut release on the excellent Throne Of Blood imprint about to drop, the label run by the New York cowbell brothers The Rapture - should ensure they come with the attached prefix “ones to watch” in 2011. Their music oozes deepness and betrays an encyclopaedic knowledge of classic house, disco and techno – a perfect fit then.
