This week we have a very special post-punk set by Auralism's Roman Stange.
Roman describes his approach for the night..
"It's the best 80's night that you have never been too - but you always wanted to experience. If you were hanging around Detroit in the mid to late 80's, this is the music that would have lead you to the dance floor at the Music Institute. Post-punk is still a favorite to the founders of techno, still a favorite to Richie Hawtin and Sammy Dee, and still a favorite to me - Roman Stange. This Friday I will be your history teacher and my course will be on all of the various related genres; post-punk, shoe-gazer, madchester, brit-pop, etc. I like to play the darker and rarer songs (there will not be "Blue Monday" or "Just Like Heaven"). You'll dance, but it is not what you might call dance music."

Roman Stange is the dark horse of the Auralism stable in more ways than one. Experiencing techno's birth in the 80's Detroit, as a teenager, Stange has soul and techno music in his blood. In the early 90's Stange emerged on the other side of the techno underground with a penchant for immersive soulful sound scapes ringing to a 4/4 beat. After relocating to Boston, Roman quickly began pushing the shaded experimental underbelly of electronic music—minimal, IDM, and industrial—against the city's prevailing indie rock scene, performing leftfield live PAs with the renowned Toneburst & Lollygagger collectives, which also included Hrvatski (Keith Whitman Fullerton), DJ C, Mr. In Ter Rupt , Soplerfo, DJ/Rupture, and ESP.
Based in San Francisco since 2006, Stange has come out of retirement and has taken up the West Coast's vibrant dance-floor culture as his personal call to arms, hearkening back to his midwestern roots to create immersive, psychedelic groovers blooming with mechanized soul. Romans Paratroupr Ep was released on Auralism in 2008, with remixes by Dave Aju, Elon, and Jason Short. Roman's solo remixes and remixes with his production partner, Craig Kuna of the famed [KONTROL] crew, can be found on Aftersoul, Auralism, Blipswitch, Crabouiller, Mothership, Nightlight Music (NLMX), and soon Untitled & After.
