Guitar riffs, hip-hop rhymes, dancehall flow and rock anthems quotes from classical music and direct references to Radiohead. After reading the above it should be quite clear that Stateless and their music output escapes all generalizations and labels, and is hard to place in any available category. In the past they were hailed as a rock band, hip-hop band, dance music band and IDM band, they got compared to the already mentioned Radiohead as well as Portishead and UNKLE and played at the biggest commercial radio stations and most famous avant-garde music festivals at the same time!
Even before their professional career really took off the band has already had a record deal signed with one of the major record labels – Sony, only to start releasing their music in two of the biggest independent labels on the planet - !K7 and Ninja Tune.
As the leader of Stateless – Chris James says: the only thing which interests them in music is total artistic freedom. This uncompromising approach, which disregards all fake boundaries and formed limitations, has allowed them to reach the listeners raised on Brit Pop as well as those who prefer distinct rhythms and dance floor madness.
Their debut album, entitled simply “Stateless” has been released after 5 years of activity, and the superb form of the band was confirmed by high class videos and numerous live performances during which the audience was given the acoustic versions of the songs from the album. In 2011 came out their second studio LP “Mathilda” this time with guest appearances from DJ Shadow and Balanescu Quartet, an album which showed a new, more dance music inspired face of Stateless.
Wanting to properly warm you up before the upcoming VI edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festiwal 2011, which will take place during the last weekend of August (on the future Museum Slaskie grounds in Katowice), we have decided to invite Stateless to play twice in Poland. We surely hope that both gigs on the 10th in Jazz Club Hipnoza in Katowice, and on the 11th in Powiekszenie in Warsaw will become a good way of preparing yourself for one of the most interesting events of this summer! Please remember that the VI Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival has already been confirmed with the performances from: Boxcutter, Emika, Walls, Gold Panda, Mary Anne Hobbs, Modeselektor, Apparat Band Live, Pearson Sound aka Ramadanman and Lamb.
