  • Rock Like This teams up with Pretty simple to bring you a night of breaks from the hardcorebeats meistros CTRL-Z!! Ctrl Z are a breakbeat production duo hailing from London. They are one of the hottest acts in the breakbeat world. So hot in fact that the world’s leading drum and bass agency Echo Location (Home to Pendulum, Hype, Grooverider, Dillinja, Subfocus, Noisia...the list goes on!) took them on as their first breaks act. They have become pioneers and trendsetters of harder edged breakbeat. Tom Petais and Nicky D’Silva, aka Dash and Inch, met through the Community Music Program in London. The pairing up of these two DJs by their tutor was to be the start of something special. When Ctrl Z’s first production was unleashed, it was snapped up by DJ Mutiny’s Funkatech Recordings. ‘Disko’ and ‘Pain’ was a defining episode in break beat history as it caused a tidal wave in the Breaks scene. It blasted it’s way straight to number 1 in the Mixmag charts and straight into the boxes of the Breakbeat elite. This dancefloor bomb paved the way for the duo, but was just a hint of what was to come. They have over 30 releases and remixes under their belts on respected labels such as 777, Hardcore beats, Broke, Against The Grain and Rat Records. You might even catch them moonlighting for the odd Cut and Run release. It is no surprise that after only a year in the business, Ctrl Z had the honour of receiving two nominations for Best Breakthrough Act and Best Breakthrough Producer at the 2005 Breakspoll Awards. Dash & Inch continue to receive praise and support from some of the biggest players in the scene. Freq Nasty commissioned no less than three Ctrl-Z tracks for his Breakspoll compilation CD, while the Freestylers requested not only a Ctrl Z remix on their album, but a collaboration with themselves too! They’ve also collaborated with Breakbeat stalwarts Tayo and the Autobots. Their pairing with Tearout king Screwface has delivered smash hit after smash hit. Amongst the many accolades chalked up by Ctrl Z include a second place for “Best Compilation Album” (for Hardwired) at Breakspoll 2006. When their not producing dancefloor bombs, you can catch these boys up to their antics on their radio show for the Double Award Winning station Pyroradio.com. Their DJ sets have to be seen to be believed, headlining Events all over the UK and Europe, Ctrl Z have crossed the Atlantic for four successful tours of the States and are rapidly spreading their unmistakable sound even further. Such is the demand for this duo that they were asked to headline Breakspoll 2006 with the Breakfastaz. In 2007 they were one of the main drawcards in Annie Nightingales Tent on the Opening night of the infamous Glastonbury festival. This year they have become residents at The End in London for DJ Friction’s Shogun Audio Night and will be taking their brand of big bad beats through Australasia.
