UMEK has done this step as early as in the middle of the 90s and so he became one of the most important techno players of the global techno scene, even before the end of the last millennium. Together with people, who shared the same views, he successfully captured the first era of researching and recreating the rules of the dance music in Recycled Loops, Consumer Recreation and Astrodisco platforms, which all put the sound of the Slovenian techno on the world map of electronic music. In the beginning of the year 2007, UMEK started a new 1605 Music Therapy - Sixteenofive, with which he marked the beginning of the second era of his music creation and what an era it is! After 4 years the label is tagged as a great success and is one of the world’s fastest growing techno labels, which spawns releases and new talents almost every week. Year 2011 started for UMEK as none before! First, and interesting documentary, named “Techno heavy-weights UMEK & Carl Cox in back to back interview” was released and was aplauded by UMEK's audience and shared tremendously over the internet and social networks. In February, UMEK was again nominated on the Beatport Music Awards, this time as a best artist overall, along with the likes of David Guetta, Deadmau5, Mark Knight. He won by staff pick and is 2011’s Beatport’s Best artist. Numerous UMEK’s releases and remixes alerady pounding the Beatport Techno and Tech House Chart (on 1605 and other world-renowned labels), and the crown jewel of 2011 – already favourite among the millions of listeners across the globe – his own radio show, wittily titled “Behind The Iron Curtain”, featuring upcoming talents, legendary tracks from the past, best on [1605] and more. Not to mention the vast number of already confirmed bookings for 2011, such as the sophomore residency at Space Ibiza with Carl Cox for 10th anniversary of his legendary project called Revolution. These are the best proof, that UMEK stays focused on his primary goal – making and selecting high quality productions that stand out from the rest and bringing his sound closer to people all around the world. KENNY LARKIN::CADENZA::DETROIT::LOS ANGELES Kenny Larkin is distinctly one of the world’s most premiere leaders of Detroit techno in the electronic music industry today. As a producer, DJ and remixer, Kenny has mesmerized crowds and fans across the globe for nearly twenty years with his music. Since 1990, Larkin has cemented his name in the pages of dance music history along with fellow Detroit Techno music mates, Derrick May, Carl Craig and Kevin Saunderson. Kenny’s list of achievements and discography are groundbreaking to say the least. Highlights include his first full album, Azimuth (released 1994), which was deemed by Street Sound magazine as one of the top 50 techno CDs of all time. By no coincidence, his most recent album, Keys, Strings and Tambourines, released under the mighty wings of Carl Craig’s label, Planet e, has been slated by Pop Matters magazine as the ninth best electronic albums of 2008. For their selection of top 20 albums of 2008, well respected website, Resident Advisor, listed Larkin’s album at 18. Larkin’s thunderous return to techno didn’t stop with his impressive album release. Kenny’s remixing efforts have recently been highly sought after. This is due in part to his superbly crafted 2009 remix of Ben Klock’s “OK” featuring Elif Biçer, which hit many top remix lists of 2009. In Jan 2010 alone, Kenny has been commissioned to remix seven projects from various high profile artists, including Plastikman, and Radioslave.. It’s no surprise these brooding artists respect Kenny for the classic Detroit angle he brings to re-create their sounds. Kenny has an undeniable passion for making techno music. It’s what he knows and loves. His popularity as an artist and DJ has no limits. He transcends expectations in balance with meeting his own ambitions and meanwhile pleasing Detroit-days devoted followers all over the world. The evolution of Kenny’s career has converted ardent fans to believers in his evident musical life calling. A man that just won’t rest, 2010 proposes to be an eventful year for Larkin. When he’s not on a plane heading to his next DJ gig across the globe (he’s accumulated over 4 million air miles), he can be found in his Los Angeles, Calif. home in the studio working on future releases, remixes, and preparing for his upcoming live shows. Kenny is facing the bright future ahead – dead on. DJ PIERRE::AFRO ACID RECORDS::CHICAGO Besides being a crucial DJ and the production wizard partly responsible for the development of Chicago acid-house, DJ Pierre later influenced the sound of New York’s more disco-fied house with his tenure as an in-house producer for Strictly Rhythm Records. Born in the Chicago suburbs, Nathaniel Pierre Jones was influenced by the Hot Mix Five, the pioneering DJ team which lit up Chicago’s radio airwaves during the early ’80s with dance megamixes. Jones later began DJing himself, though he preferred the sound of Italian disco to the blend of soul and American disco which Chicago DJs like Ron Hardy were playing out. When his friend Spanky brought him to the Music Box to hear Ron Hardy in person though, Pierre was convinced — he began spinning records more akin to the burgeoning house sound as well. DJ Pierre began recording on the side with Spanky and another friend named Herb J, working on tracks with an old drum machine and synthesizers. One of the synthesizers in their studio was the Roland TB-303, a bass-line generator introduced only in the past few years but already a relic littering junk stores at inexpensive prices. After a period of experimentation, the three hit upon an intriguing sound made when the box was pitched much higher than its normal operating frequencies; the squelchy psychedelic sounds enlivened their recordings and more than convinced Ron Hardy to begin playing one track on his reel-to-reel setup at the Music Box. Known at the club as “Ron Hardy’s Acid Tracks” and quickly re-recorded for a 1986 release by the three billed as Phuture, “Acid Trax” became one of the biggest house records of the time, the starting point for a whole new style later termed acid house as a tribute. Reportedly, thousands of soundalike records flooded the local market in the next few years, and the originators quickly became forgotten amidst the wash of imitators. DJ Pierre kept busy, working on the act Pierre’s Phantasy Club with Felix Da Housecat and producing another genuine house classic with “String Free” by Phortune, but then left Phuture in 1990 with a relocation to New York. His first single once in Gotham was Photon Inc.‘s “Generate Power,” a dancefloor barnstormer released on the relatively mainstream dance label Strictly Rhythm. “Generate Power” was the formal debut for Pierre’s new production method the Wild Pitch, created with a quickly backspun sample which generated a crispy lightning-strike of sound similar to the acid squelch. Besides featuring on a host of DJ Pierre remixes and productions, it became standard fare for scores of producers during the next few years, just as the sound of the TB-303 had earlier. Pierre continued to remix and produce for Strictly Rhythm and Twisted/MCA, finding additional club hits with “Live & Die” by Audio Clash, another Photon Inc. track named “Love,” “Follow Me” by Aly-Us and “Sound Blaster” by Joint Venture. He also hosted a slew of mix compilations throughout the 1990s. ANA SIA::ANA SIA MUSIC::SAN FRANCISCO Ana Sia’s DJ crate is a ticker for the hottest sounds of tomorrow. One of the west coast’s most celebrated DJs, this SF Bay Area-based tastemaker is known for not only energizing the dance floor, but consistently breaking new sounds from all over the world. Having championed some of the most beloved music festivals in the US, Canada and abroad, Ana Sia has gone from rocking house parties to stadiums by stylistically staying two steps ahead of the game. From huge festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival and others, and an array of clubs and venues spanning every major city, countless college towns and hot spots everywhere, Ana Sia has built a community just as fun, wild and eclectic as her style. She has shared the stage with a growing list of artists ranging all styles of electronic dance music, from Diplo to Deadmau5, Datsik to Daedelus…and everybody in between. Ana Sia jumped off 2012 on NYE in Queenstown, New Zealand, as she continues her conquering of sound systems across the globe. Shortly before, she unleashed her first full length contribution, a well-regarded compilation and DJ-mix titled ‘Surreal Estate’ on Frite Nite, her quickly-rising Cali-based label and crew. A testament to her forward-thinking style, ‘Surreal Estate’ was featured in music publications such as Resident Advisor, Pitchfork, XLR8R, Sonic Router and more, touted as leading the way with the brightest production minds in North American dance music. Coupled with her growing production catalog and high-profile collaborations underway, Ana Sia looks to make her mark on recorded music as well as the stage. In the meantime, she’ll keep crowds enticed — keeping speakers pumping with big bass-driven, intelligent and sexy music…deep enough for the cabaret and filthy enough for the festival stage. GREG GOW:: RESTRUCTURED::TRANSMAT::TORONTO Greg Gow’s deep, groovy techno sound has evolved progressively since his days of playing house music in the early nineties. As a resident on York University’s CHRY 105.5 FM station in Toronto, Greg played alongside much respected house Djs Nick Holder and Mitch Winthrop. While Greg Gow had established himself as a high-profile Dj in the Toronto house music circuit, his sound was rapidly evolving. Influenced by the sounds emerging from Detroit and Germany, by 1996 Greg had traded his smooth house sound for the dark atmospheric grooves of techno music. In 1997 the rave scene was exploding across Toronto, and it quickly became the ideal environment for Greg to display his hard rhythmic tones and technical brilliance. Yet it was a fresh up-start techno production company, called Phryl, where Greg’s stature of one of the top techno Djs in Canada was solidified. Playing packed ware-houses alongside international superstars such as Cari Lekebusch, Adam Beyer, Joel Mull, Gaetano Parisio, Derrick May, Stacey Pullen and James Ruskin. His sets for Phryl parties were regarded as brilliant and often overshadowed the top-billed acts he was playing with. Greg was now a major player in the dance music scene in Toronto, and while the scene was shifting from the warehouses to the more intimate club settings, Greg remained a staple in an ever-changing culture. The now booming club scene became Greg Gow’s new adopted home, moving the crowd in the same manner, and seeing him sharing bills alongside such dance music luminaries as Derrick Carter, Aril Brikha, Rolando and Richie Hawtin. While not one to stick to one format of the dance music culture. Greg has also become an accomplished and respected techno producer, releasing tracks on Seismic Detroit, Default, Zen, 2Wars and the legendary German techno label Tresor. Garnering spins from techno heavyweights DJ Rush, Umek, and Mateo Murphy. Greg is also the owner/operator of two international labels Restructured and Kombustion. Both labels feature his own music plus different leading artists from around the world, and have been spotted in the crates of many globe trotting djs like Steve Rachmad, Umek and Ben Sims.
