AIMES is the production moniker and musical alter ego of Alabama born, Brooklyn resident, Aman Ellis. Aman, a formally trained jazz guitarist, entered into the world of electronic music almost by mistake. After years of searching for his sound on the guitar, many of which involved him trying to make his guitar sound like a synthesizer, he opted to trade the two. Now armed with a plethora of gadgets and toys, Aman spends his time bridging the divide between the organic tones of his past and the lush oscillations in his present.
As AIMES, Aman has managed to create a statement that is over 15 years in the making, culminating from a lifetime of influences and musical exploration. Locking himself in his Brooklyn apartment for most of 2010, Aman set out to make the record of the sounds he had been hearing in his head. Armed with not much more than a few synthesizers, a telecaster, and a vocal mic, AIMES constructed a nostalgia filled, yet contemporary, album that at times channels the late 70's Manhattan disco circuit, and other times even the current UK bassline scene, all while maintaining his own unique sound.
On his debut album "Your Floor Is Now a Tree," you find an artist coming in his own. The album is Aman’s first release to feature vocals from himself, and they call to mind an almost haunting melancholic sublime. With a slight tinge of vulnerability and earnest, the human condition is most prevalent on songs like ‘You and Me’ and ‘If You Ever Wanna’. While at other times, his vocals recall disco forefather, Gino Soccio on ‘Every Time When I See You.’
