  • *N*O*C*T*U*R*N*A*L* .Debauched Nightlife. **1st BIRTHDAY** £5 / £7 / £8 Fri 1st Feb 11.00 - 6.00 The Garage ******************************* After a year of bringing a mixture of up and coming artist and industry legends we couldnt be more chuffed to be reaching our first birthday this coming February. Reaching a milestone such as this has made us re-shuffle a few things as we will be leaving our current home @ Musiquarium and the party will now be moving bi-monthly to the recently voted 'best small UK venue' by DJ Mag; The Garage. This is a move that was not taken lightly, but after a great year at one of our favourite venues we feel as the party progresses so must the space we use to hold it, and the garage couldnt be more related to our ethos so we look forward to a strong and happy future at this fantastic club. A massive thanks to the guys and Musiqaurium and more importantly all you guys for supporting us so far For our birthday instalment of debauchery we welcome the Leeds debut of one of our biggest artist to date, aspect label boss and one of Perlon's finest; the legendary Thomas Melchior. Coupled with Ricardo Villalobos as one of the true pioneers of 'micro house', melchiors career has seen him release under countless aliases from Ohm, Cinderfella LTD, M-core, Melchior Productions to most notably his collabarations with baby ford as Soul Capsule. On top of running his own Aspect imprint these varying aliases have seen him release on classic german label playhouse, to perlon, lick my deck, and most recently a:rpia:r to name but a few. Thomas is a true pioneer and we couldn't think of anyone more fitting to celebrate a year of bringing Leeds the more minimal side of music. Support on the night comes from London based Leitmotif, newly announced Live resident; Ste Waite and hush house's; Robert Cary. ******************************* LINE UP Thomas Melchior (Perlon / Aspect) Leitmotif (Zombie Soundsystem) Ste Waite {Live} Robert Cary (Hush House) Resident: Mike Stockell Tickets: £5 Early Bird / £7 Advance / £8 Guestlist (names on wall) For more info and paper tickets call Amy: 07708375665 ******************************* THOMAS MELCHIOR Born in Germany, Thomas Melchior was raised in the USA, Spain and finally England. At school he also started his musical career as composer/singer and keyboardist before moving to London where he soon formed his first Jazzfunk five-piece band (Blipvert Bigtop). Releasing records on his own Label (Earworm) they performed in London warehouses, clubs and pubs. After becoming a father, Thomas's next project Ohm experimented with and fused electronic and funkadelic sounds with soul and jazz. Ohm's ‘Heady Volt Experience EP’ had a strong influence on the later emerging trip hop scene... But times were a changing and Melchior moved on to pioneer and explore other moods and grooves. With the arrival of a computer, he began to discover the world of reduced music making, leading him to work and hang out with weird beat master J. Saul Kane (Depth Charge, Bomb The Bass), introducing him to the early London acid house and warehouse underground where he hooked up with people like Peter "Baby" Ford, Mark Moore, Big Audio Dynamite, Carl Craig etc… soon he was on his way to making tripped out electronica: In '92 Thomas hooked up with multi instrumentalist Tim Hutton and started recording as Vulva/Yoni. Quickly Vulva caught the attention of the Mr Aphex Twin Richard James and his Rephlex label, who promptly released the now legendary ‘From The Cockpit’ album. Vulva/YONI basked in the lights of success releasing records on San Fransisco's Reflective and David Moufang's Source Records as well as playing alongside Armando, Aphex Twin, Black Dog (Plaid), Autechre, Global Communication, Orbital etc. As the years went by Thomas' musical interests shifted towards producing more minimal deep- and tracky style house tunes and after touring the USA as member of Lady Miss Kiers' (Deelite) band this wanderer moved to New York in 1996 familiarizing himself with some of the American house and techno scene before returning to London. Meanwhile the record releases slowly mounted under various pseudonyms namely M-core,Deepah, Sunpeople, Soul Capsule and as part of the Ifach Collective, etc., His more personal London speed garage influenced deep hypnotic and sexy micro house cuts set a new manifesto on his label Aspect Music in 2000 and various releases on Perlon and Playhouse followed Throughout Thomas's musical life he has stayed dedicated to the underground, maintaining a low profile, allowing him to stay clear of trends and instead continuing to influence new artists and sub genres. ************************************* noc·tur·nal [nok-tur-nl] adjective 1. of or pertaining to the night ( opposed to diurnal). 2. done, occurring, or coming at night: nocturnal visit. 3. active at night ( opposed to diurnal): nocturnal animals. ..............Debauched Nightlife..............
