Kumasi Music Party with Dirty Channels, S.K.A.M, Kreature, Matt Fear

  • The momentum that has been generated over the past year at Kumasi Music has surpassed all expectations. As well as the odd day of hard work at the office, there have been immense contributions from our artist roster, some unbelievable events thrown, and a dreamy foray into the world of independent record labels. A big thank you is in order for all those who have helped in taking the Kumasi movement to where it is today. Possibly the most pleasing moment of the year has been the two Kumasi parties we threw in Leeds and London on December 7th and 8th. It was really refreshing to see the enthusiasm for Kumasi Music borne in the flesh, rather than being restricted to the metaphorical confines of the Beatport charts, and the response was beyond anything we could have hoped. Consequently, we’re having another one! Manchester is the venue this time, a city with a rich and diverse musical heritage, which we are hoping to tap into with a takeover of the iconic Joshua Brooks. Dirty Channels top the bill as part of the overseas Kumasi contingent. The Italian duo have recently joined the ranks armed with releases on Ovum, Culprit and the seemingly unstoppable Hot Creations. Their warm native climes have coloured their music, where glittering arpeggios and woozy, soulful synths accompany an extremely accomplished style of drum programming. From Italy, we hop across Eastern Europe to Russia to bring S.K.A.M. over to the UK for the first time. Most recent release “Remember Me” EP on Electronique has graced the Beatport Top 100 nu-disco charts with two of its tracks, and coupled with releases on Exploited, Gruuv and Kumasi Music this year, the future looks bright for the young Russian. Kreature looks to carry an extremely strong 2012 into the new year, as he continues to garner attention from all corners for his unique takes on bassline manipulation and mutated sampling. Fellow Yorkshireman Matt Fear will offer a similarly heavyweight take on deep house, which has seen him build a back catalogue that already includes Hot Waves and Mexa. Appropriately, the North-West represents through Liverpudlian upstart Lauren Lo Sung. The newest member of the Kumasi family, Lauren has shown an enormous amount of promise for such a young producer, pushing her take on tech-house in her hometown all the way to the White Isle. Rounding off the bill is young Manchester production duo Rekreation, who are fresh off a release for Deep Edition Recordings, the sultry “Dub Poetry”, and their latest EP on Noir. If the previous two Kumasi parties are anything to go by (see here: http://vimeo.com/56205244), this will be an absolute heater.
