The springtime thaw of Stuffa's Levitate EP warmed things up for Trunkfunk Records, who are poised to unleash their quintessential summer jam. Trunkfunk label head DJ Nibc last went solo for the 2011 favourite The Doorman, and lightning strikes twice with his new EP Spiders Spins.
"Spiders Spins" weaves an irresistible web of sun-drenched scenarios, with a sound bed of dancefloor chatter that takes it from open air to boat party to block party and back again. Gospel pianos roll against a vocal refrain of "deep inside your love," as a filtered disco loop and smatterings of bongos tease you towards the track's hand-in-the-air peak.
If "Spider Spins" is the anthem for the deck and the terrace, "All's Well That Ends Well" is its slinky sunset counterpart. It's the more intimate number of the two with isolated strings and silky horns, designed for dancing close on balmy nights and the earliest rays of sunrise.
Gomma twosome Mercury craft a "Spider Spins" remix as per their unique brand of outsider house. It bristles with a powerful kick that plays against the tracks vintage disco melody, before taking a sharp left turn into a menacing and suspenseful tech-house territory.
Gothenberg's Shakarchi & Straneus give "All's Well That Ends Well" the deepest of deep disco treatments, transforming the track with slowed-down sirens and classic US house drums that take it back to the darkened basement clubs that lay beneath city streets.
Completing Spiders Spins is Swedish artist Johan Stenbeck whose intricate illustration brings the eight-legged creature to surreal life.
