The past few years has seen the underground dance culture skyrocket above ground in such a fashion that it has left many waiting for the other shoe to drop. With the market at peek saturation, it has become more difficult than ever to establish a share of voice by way of productions, not to mention for new label launches. However, it can be done. Just ask Malcolm Abdlila, or as you may know him, Deepfunk.
From a young age, Malcolm displayed a curiosity towards electronics as a whole, so it's not surprise that any given weekend you can find him immersed in sound at the helm of a nightclub, pushing his sonic agenda on willing clubbers around the world. His passion for his productions is undeniable, and his sound is an atmospheric blend of the deeper and darker sides of house. After dropping his first single in mid-2007, he really began to create a buzz when he joined the stable of Stripped in 2009, thus getting his work in the hands of tastemakers like Charlie May, Robert Babicz and Sasha. The following year saw him sign with Silence Through Music, a new imprint that dovetailed perfectly with Deepfunk's POV and also grouped him along side fellow artists like Guy J, Quivver and Chris Fortier to name a few. With remix and production credits on Bedrock, Sudbeat, microCastle and Hope among others, Deepfunk's passion has been embraced by John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo and Timo Maas. His latest chapter began in late 2012 when he struck out on his own with SIXTYSEVENSUNS imprint and has seen multiple releases and massive support.
