Oliver Koletzki: Since he was 12 years old, OLIVER KOLETZKI has been deeply infected with the production of music. He starts out by programming Hip-Hop beats on the C64, but quickly falls in love with more electronic sounds like breakdance and synthie-pop that he produces on the first Amiga computers. When he turns 18, he also starts to DJ in his hometown of Braunschweig and quickly becomes a regular DJ in the local clubs. In 2000 he decides to move to Berlin to study music – and the excessive Berlin nightlife. He promptly lands himself DJ gigs in smaller clubs and bars, but with the release of his first record, things change for the better. In the summer of 2005 he starts to play festivals, gets booked into the most prestigious clubs all over the world and gets asked to remix the likes of Rockers Hi-Fi, Client or Cassius. However, while superstardom is lurking around every corner, Oliver stays down to earth: "I have been making music for nearly twenty years now. That provides me with a stable base for not going nuts. Basically, I am still doing the same that I have been doing for years now: making music during the week and playing out on the weekends, even if it is on a slightly different level now." In October 2005, while still riding on the success of his debut single, Oliver directly realises one of his dreams: to have his own label. He founds Stil vor Talent, a label dedicated to pushing new artists and creating a platform for a huge variation of quality electronic dance music – from minimal techno to squeaky house to pop music. "From the beginning I wanted to give people the same chance that I've had and offer them a platform to release their music. However: the quality of the music is above everything else. Firstly, I have to like it", Oliver comments on the philosophy of his label. And he is a workaholic. He still spends hours and hours listening to demo tracks and goes out to see people play live in small clubs. Label manager, producer, DJ, bandleader: above all this, Oliver still manages to fill the clubs around the world and make people smile to his energetic DJ sets. Be in the best clubs of Europe such as London's Fabric, Berlin's Berghain or around the rest of the world: Oliver knows how to perform and connect with his audience. Kolombo: Olivier Grégoire is a prolific and well renowned producer and DJ from Belgium. He has truly mastered the art of modern production, and over the years has experimented with many dance music genres through various pseudonyms, leading to a huge discography that includes releases on some of the world's finest electronic imprints. Under his massive KOLOMBO moniker he has had many solid releases and remixes on labels such as Kompakt, 2DIY4, Warung, Noir Music, Turbo, Eskimo, Future Classic, Systematic and Boxer amongst others. Consequently, he is busy touring worldwide, playing his mixture of house and disco and enjoys loyal followings in Brazil, Mexico and Russia. In addition to this Olivier is busy running his own label Loulou Records, together with his partner Jerome, with whom he produces and DJ’s worldwide as LOULOU PLAYERS. The label has a firm house music policy with a knack of scouting future talents and gets strong support from the likes of MANDY, Richy Ahmed, Solomun, Ivan Smagghe, H.O.S.H, Wally Lopez and Chlöé. Lastly, he's also been creating more leftfield electronic music since 2008 with Brussels dance-music pioneer Geoffroy Mugwump. They have caused a stir with their killer MUGWUMP 12's and remixes for Kompakt, Gigolo, R&S, Cocoon, Throne Of Blood, Misericord, International Feel, Permanent Vacation and Endless Flight. After months of hard work, the forthcoming Mugwump debut album that features special guest vocalists is now ready to be unleashed. Hard work, consistency, open-mindedness and excellent technical skills are the key ingredients for Kolombo's continued success within dance music. Marshall Jefferson: Widely regarded as the Godfather of house music, it is unsurprising that Marshall's "Move Your Body" is also dubbed as “The House Music Anthem”. Marshall Jefferson is one of the founding fathers of house music as it is known today. Born in Chicago in 1959, Marshall was a central figure in the development of the Chicago house scene and produced seminal house anthems including Move Your Body, 7 Ways To Jack and Open Our Eyes. He has worked with the best in the business, from fellow founding father Frankie Knuckles to Roy Davis Jr., Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley, Felix Da Housecat and Lil Louis. Marshall has had a leading hand in the growth of the acid and deep house movements. His impact is so great that he continues to break boundaries and disprove all those predicting the end of house music. Initially inspired by rock music, regular trips to Chicago’s famed Music Box Club in the mid 80s turned Marshall onto the sounds of early house music. Having bought himself a modest synthesiser and sequencer set-up, Marshall began producing his own cuts and passed them on to Ron Hardy of the Music Box Club, who quickly began playing them to the love of the crowd. The mid 80s gave way to the development of acid house, and Marshall actively participated in the movement’s growth through his use of the Roland TB303. The release in 1987 of Acid Trax launched the career of DJ Pierre and helped Marshall expand his already impressive collaboration roster, working with the likes of Ten City, Robert Owens, Keith Thompson and Pierre’s collective Phuture. Forever in search of fresh inspiration, Marshall switched his focus in the late 1980’s from acid house to the then relatively new sub-genre of deep house. Open Our Eyes, released on Big Beat in 1988, was a huge success; nowhere before had a producer been able to make such an emotional connection with the listener while maintaining the physical connection necessary for it to succeed on the dance floor. Through his work with vocalists like Kim Mazelle, Ce Ce Rogers and Curtis McClaine, Marshall produced hits on labels including Republic UK, Trax Records, Atlantic and Syncopate. Juggling production and remix duties with a hectic touring schedule, Marshall was the headline act in the first House Music Tour of Europe in 1987 and enjoyed regular gigs in clubs around the US, most notably in Chicago. The new millennium saw original production take a back seat as Marshall released several mix compilations, including 2001’s Welcome to The World Of Marshall Jefferson – A Testament to House Music, 2003’s Move Your Body: The Evolution of Chicago House and 2004’s Marshall Jefferson Presents The Foundations of House. Original releases, when they did drop, always fared well. Marshall’s collaboration with Serge Imhof on 69% was a defining release for the then relatively new label. Marshall teamed up with DJ Pierre once more to release Clap Your Hands (Everybody Dance) on the UK’s Essence Records. The following year Marshall appeared at London club Pacha as part of their “Fathers of House” events, a series celebrating house music’s heroes from past and present. Even after almost three decades in the industry, Marshall is still busy as ever and most importantly, constantly cementing his stellar reputation while still evolving as both an artist and an entertainer. Evil Eddie Richards Eddie Richards is an integral part of the modern House scene, he has been around from the start and has played a pivotal part in the scenes movement. His achievements are numerous, establishing the first ever DJ agency, and his involvement in ‘Wiggle’ being only two. Eddie has been championed as a leader in the currently fabulous tech-house marketplace, but in reality, he is just playing the badass, tough music that has been moving dance floors for decades. Xpress 2 (Rocky & Diesel) X-Press 2 make music for the dance floor. Pure and simple. So many nights and days and 25 years of being in and DJing at amazing clubs and parties are what inspires us to keep doing what we do. It was the dance floor that told us to be DJs in the first place and the dance floor that inspired the early tracks that we made. We loved that whole going out and hearing all sorts of music in one night thing. DJs like Alfredo and Larry Levan were champions of this style of DJing and it was thanks to people like them that we were able to do what we’ve done over the years. The old guard are still an inspiration for our music, both as DJs and producers but we are constantly checking for new names who always come along and give things a slightly different slant on what’s gone before. I think it’s a combination of the old and the new that truly underpins our music nowadays. we can listen to and old jazz album from the 60s next to a hot new track from someone like Feygin and feel totally blown away. This is what keeps us going into the studio and making the music that we do. All that we’ve ever wanted to do out of our music is to see people dance and get that empathy with the dance floor, knowing how a track makes us feel and seeing it have the same effect on 2000 people dancing as you play it.” (Rocky – X-Press 2011) To book a VIP table please email: [email protected] Over 18s Join us on: http://www.facebook.com/funkinyouevents https://twitter.com/funkinyou1 https://soundcloud.com/funkinyou
