Competition closes 3/3/14. OM UNIT As Om Unit Jim Coles has spent the past three years refining his unique sound with releases on Goldie’s Metalheadz, dBridge’s Exit Records, Plastician’s Terrorhythm and Civil Music. Via collaborations with Machinedrum (as Dream Continuum on Planet Mu), Mark Pritchard, Kromestar, Fracture and Sam Binga plus his short-lived, much hyped footwork-jungle alias Phillip D. Kick and remixing Joker, Reso, Kramphaft, Starkey, VIVEK, Foreign Beggars, Shigeto, Illum Sphere and more we can see the confluence of all this work takes full flight on his debut album ‘Threads’. Grounded in Coles’ junglistic roots, a relationship that has driven much of his recent output and DJ work, ‘Threads’ connects the dots between many genres, taking in hip-hop, jungle, bassweight and slow/fast. It features Gone The Hero,(a mysterious new project to be unveiled on Jneiro Jarel’s Label Who imprint in 2014), Jinadu, Young Echo’s MC Jabu, and London’s urban poet, and legend, Charlie Dark. While Threads is a debut full length for Om Unit it is in fact the producer’s fourth studio album, following from work in the 2000s as hip hop producer 2tall, a name under which as turntablist he was a DMC finalist and featured on the late John Peels legendary BBC radio show. In between a immensely hectic touring schedule, taking in much of Europe, North America, Japan and Australia and representing for Tempo Clash alongside, Blue Daisy, Kutmah, Kidkanevil and Offshore (R.I.P) the RBMA 2011 graduate has been heading up a “slow/fast” revolution and launching new sounds with his own label Cosmic Bridge, where he is responsible for introducing artists Danny Scrilla and Moresounds amongst others and has also released a series of ltd edition and now highly sought “Edits” 10″s. It is perhaps cliché to claim that a record is a standout, a classic before its time, or that the producer is one of the hardest working and most unique, yet Coles’ maturation as a producer over the past decade, synthesising influences and references across his prolific output makes Threads truly feels like it has that classic potential and that Om Unit is a producer deserving of the hype. http://www.soundcloud.com/omunit SKEPTICAL As a DJ and producer whose natural passion for music in all its forms eventually spilled over into a full blown production habit, Skeptical has been responsible for some of the most damaging yet delicate tracks occupying the realms of current drum & bass. Critically featured releases have been coming thick and fast on a range of the biggest labels in the genre. From the deadly Blue Eyes EP on the taste-driven label that is Ingredients Records, to a slew of impeccable releases on highly esteemed imprints such as Exit Records, Dispatch, Renegade Hardware, and with forthcoming releases due on Soul:r & Samurai, Skeptical has smashed it out for almost every dark drum & bass label worth its salt. And of course as one third of the team behind ‘Marka’ – the undisputed drum & bass champion track of 2011, Skeptical has attained a legendary status amongst the ranks of D&B producers. ‘Marka’ was a tour de force of ominous, intensely atmospheric production that goes off on the dance floor. Skeptical is a producer who can stimulate your cerebrum with his innovative bass structures and put an exit wound in your brain with destructive DJ sets that have made him a Renegade Hardware favourite. Only the biggest of things are to be expected from a producer who has only just begun to give the drum & bass public a tantalising idea of his musical mettle. http://www.soundcloud.com/skeptical FANU Finnish producer Fanu has always stood out in drum n bass with his unique, crunchy break engineering, his organic and seemingly alive drum flow, incorporating cinematic soundscapes drawing you in like an emotive scene from a movie. With his first release hitting the shelves in ‘02, he’s had a strong history of being a breakbeat drum n bass innovator on a range of imprints like Breakin, Commercial Suicide and Ninja Tune, through to a collaborative album with legendary bassist and producer Bill Laswell (who broke through with jazz icon Herbie Hancock). There’s no doubt that Fanu’s past has been exciting and colourful at every step. His latest album “Departure” was recently praised by Thump as a drum n bass highlight of 2013, and 2014 has him bringing even more innovations. These include a forthcoming hip hop album from his side alias FatGyver, and a slew of fresh, exciting drum n bass tracks exploring new elements introduced from footwork's frenetic rhythms, some set for release on his label Lightless Recordings later this year. We are very exciting to be bringing Fanu to the U.K. for this event, his set is one not to be missed. http://www.soundcloud.com/fanu http://www.soundcloud.com/fatgyver Hear a mix Fanu recorded recently for Inflect here: http://www.inflect-uk.com/post/72227546050/inflectmix-002-fanu THELEM Among the new wave of producers to emerge through the dubstep legacy, few can match the craftsmanship of Thelems meticulous attention to detail and stunning sound design. Thelem's music combines the sounds of dubstep, drum n bass and techno, with deep sub heavy aesthetics, intricate but bold drum programming and intense atmospherics to produce radical and innovative compositions, experimental in nature, but powerful on the dancefloor. With a string of sell out releases, he has appeared on imprints such as Osiris, Blackbox, Innamind, Artikal and more, and with explorations into new uptempo rhythms, expect to see more of Thelem in 2014. http://www.soundcloud.com/thelem COLECO There don't seem to be many places across the musical landscape that Coleco hasn't drawn from at some point. Instruments from around the world, ghostly remnants of 8-bit video game soundtracks, and breaky drums from 60s-70s funk are just some of the things that can often meet with rhythms inspired by drum n bass, footwork, dubstep, and 'trap'. In the early days of dubstep, Coleco made waves in the scene with his 12" releases on Soul Motive, 'Campfire Funk', and 'Hypnagogia'. Bringing together dubstep, world music, and his signature style in the engineering of funky breaks, he saw support from scene leaders such as Skream, and Nihal (BBC R1). Other releases at around 140bpm include featuring as the first release on Thelem's 'Orientis Records' label. Always staying one step ahead, as music has morphed, so has Coleco's productions. The new rise of uptempo 160/170bpm footwork and 'trap' inspired beats has seen Coleco bringing a distinctly UK edge to these fresh rhythms, with tunes like Spatial and Focus 10 reminiscent of the dark basslines of breakstep, with more speed and swagger. Coleco's fresh blend of styles has drawn support from pioneering names such as dBridge, Rockwell (BBC R1), Xtrah, Kode9, and Sam Binga. Recent releases include a track on Med School's 'New Blood 013' compilation, widely received free tracks via TrapDoor Records, and the 12" Focus 10 EP via Runtime Records complete with Om Unit remix, with more scheduled for later in 2014, so watch this space! http://www.soundcloud.com/coleco Room Two - Footwork, Jungle, DnB and more Wascal - Live Hardware Set - www.soundcloud.com/wascal Crypticz - www.soundcloud.com/crypticz-1 Wellbelove - www.soundcloud.com/harrywellbelove INININ - www.soundcloud.com/ininindj / www.kraar.co.uk Producer Vee - www.soundcloud.com/producervee Ventah - www.soundcloud.com/ventah / www.soundcloud.com/goodstreetrecords Soundwave Festival Croatia Curated by a small team of music lovers, Soundwave provides 5 full days and nights of sun kissed music spread across a boat, a beach, a live stage by the seafront and a open air nightclub for dancing beneath the stars.
