From being the rock kid at the rave, to the Israeli DJ on the European club circuit, to the electronic producer with a fetish for live instruments, he tends to skirt the edge of whatever scene he's in. It's a position that suits him well––so far it's led to dozens of lush, melodic records, an ever-evolving live act and his own label, Supplement Facts. This nonconformist attitude, combined with the emotional content of his art (so rare in today's electronic music), explains how Gerber keeps his audience locked in, be it on record or on stage. Before he was fiddling with drum machines and synths, Gerber was all about groups like Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine. These influences still echo clearly in his music today, especially in his use of harmony, contemplative moods and trippy, shoegaze-inspired sounds. It's a style that's anything but conventional, yet one that quickly drew in some of Europe's most popular labels; three years after his recording debut, Gerber released the first of several records on John Digweed's Bedrock imprint. A couple of years later, Sven Väth signed him to Cocoon, eventually releasing his album Late Bloomers. All the while, he was building Supplement Facts from the ground up, showcasing his own productions alongside those by likeminded artists, and illustrating each record sleeve by hand, so each release embodied his distinct creative panache. These days Gerber has the kind of artistic freedom he's always wanted, and it shows. Supplement Facts is more adventurous than ever, melding organic with electronic sounds. Meanwhile, he's embarked on his most unexpected project yet: an album with P Diddy, who hired him for some remixes and took him on more permanently after hearing the results. Now the hip-hop icon flies Gerber out to his studio in LA to work, where he gives him “2000% artistic freedom.” The experience has been transformative.“Something opened my mind out there,” says Gerber, noting how his approach to music has changed. For one, his rock roots are seeping back in; despite being named one of RA's top 10 acts of the year, he's scrapping his laptop for something more “live,” playing bass guitar over drum machines, and remembering the importance of lyrics. It's impossible to say where all of this is headed, but with a talent as bold and unorthodox as Gerber's, it couldn't happen any other way. Davide Squillace (CIRCO LOCO:THIS AND THAT) http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/davidesquillace https://www.facebook.com/davidesquillace https://twitter.com/DavideSquillace http://www.beatport.com/artist/davide-squillace/18601 Davide is not available for comment. He’s got to catch a flight; he’s rushing to the studio; the stage manager is frantically hurrying him into the booth; he’s meeting to discuss plans for his labels…or any of the other myriad reasons why Davide feels like he hasn’t slept, eaten or stopped running for what seems like his whole life. Born in Siena, raised in Naples, it took a trip to London for Davide to finally discover electronic music. Wooed by the mood and sound of the British scene, he returned to Naples flush with energy, excitement and a knowing that this new calling would consume him. Davide immersed himself in this world in every conceivable way. In 1999 he began studying at the Naples’ school of sound engineering, tinkering with his first productions, promoting techno events, and finally performing. His first releases on Primate Records and Conform were a cadence of his arrival and showcased the young artist’s steadfast style. Having honed his craft at home, in 2004 Davide left Naples for Barcelona unwavering in his resolve. Now, while touring around the continent, he began to release in earnest what would become a massive body of work, and at a dizzying pace. His productions have graced the catalogs of some of the finest labels including Ovum, Sci+Tec, Morris Audio, Resopal Schallware, Supernature, CMYK, Adagio, Viva, Nervous, Saved, Shake, Rillis; the list goes on… Added to that, you have to take into account the labels which Davide founded and still curatestoday – Sketch, Minisketch, Vir, 500, Titbit and Hideout. 2012 sees the start of Davide’s latest innovative project. This and That Lab will be a unique fusion of label and think tank combining music, art and culture used as a platform for Davide and other like minded artists to develop creative projects in music, visual art, design, fashion and writing. In addition to his genre-defining works, Davide continues to inspire and ignite dancefloors worldwide. Whether it be at Circoloco, where he has been a resident since 2007, Womb, Berghain, D.Edge, or any other marquee venue, Davide plays with an unequalled funk and excitement. His signature sets, revered by the masses and peers alike, do a double duty in guarding our much-loved traditions while constantly pushing them forward. The realm of possibilities for one of electronic music’s leading lights is endless. Unfortunately, the minutes in the day are not. Davide’s answer is simple – do what you love and make no compromises. Cassy Britton (WWW.CASSYBRITTON.COM) http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/cassy https://www.facebook.com/cassyofficial https://twitter.com/cassybritton http://www.beatport.com/artist/cassy/5692 Cassy Britton has meticulously fashioned her craft over the last decade, approaching her productions and DJ sets with an attention to detail and passion that is hard to surpass. Her dedication to music, twinned with her gift for reading the crowd has meant that her profile has grown to worldwide recognition amongst fans and within the industry. Cassy was first gripped by the power of sound in Vienna, a city famous for its musical culture and classical history, studying music and performance at a young age while surrounded by the ghosts of legendary composers left it's mark on Cassy. From here she moved into other kinds of performance art, dabbling in theatre and acting, but she was soon drawn back into music, her one true passion. The dance music scene was exploding around her and she wanted to get to the heart of it. Her first professional step was as a vocalist for Elin aka Autorepeat on 'Music Takes Me Higher' on Sabotage Records. From here DJ/Producer Electric Indigo mentored Cassy through the transition from a vocalist to a DJ. After debut gigs in Vienna and Munich she met Dave the Hustler where they started working on a collaboration for Mental Groove. During this time she also met Luciano, co-producing 'La Ondita' on his album 'Blind Behaviour'. She moved to Berlin in 2003 to hone her skills on the club circuit, soon after this relocation Cassy secured a residency at Panorama Bar in Berghain cementing her name in the DJ annals. Her production credits include collaborations with Steve Bug, Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, DJ Elin, Dave The Hustler, Mathew Jonson and Swayzak. She has a diverse body of work on highly-regarded labels such as Playhouse, Perlon, Ostgut Ton and Cocoon. She also runs her own self-titled label, using it for an outlet for her unique sound. Cassy does not subscribe to any one genre, she glides between house and techno, with a hint Viennese traditionalism she continues to use vinyl, but with a contemporary, superstylish and swaggery sound she creates soul and balance in her DJ sets, moulding and shaping her performance to the audience, taking them on an adventure weather an intimate secret gig or a huge festival arena. Cassy continues her residency at Panorama Bar, and is also resident at Rex in Paris and Trouw in Amsterdam and will be touring widely in 2014. Danny Daze (ELLUM AUDIO:) http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/dannydaze https://www.facebook.com/DannyDaze https://twitter.com/DannyDaze http://www.beatport.com/artist/danny-daze/129061 Maaaaaaan people hate reading bios. Real quick, started DJing in 99'. Would DJ weddings at 14 years old and use the money on vinyl for my rave gigs. Started making music in 04' on a cracked version of Fruity Loops. Went to SAE to learn WTF I was doing and graduated first in my class of 13. Most of my youth was spent collecting vinyl and seeking out doubles to trade with others. My early influences came from Miami Bass & Booty music, which led to Electro & Techno. Started an Electro record label in 2005 which released white labels and official V/A double packs. Now I produce electronic music and travel quite a bit. Usually try to sneak in at least 5 hours of sleep a day. The main focus of my DJ sets is to make people dance, deeply commanded by Detroit Techno and Italo Disco. While my main focus in music production is to push myself & try something a bit different than the last session I had open. Thanks for reading. Have a great day.
