After our two recent blowouts at new hotspot Baby's All Right, for Industry of Machines third event this month we're taking it back to familiar territory at Bossa Nova Civic Club for a final return to our original Thursday night spot. It's a night that has meant a lot to us over the past year, so we're taking it out in fine style with a loaded lineup of upcoming locals making strong entries onto the scene, many of whom are veterans in their own right.
A. Arias is currently best known as the force behind the Thule Musik revival label Strobelight Network, which rescued the excellent trove of Icelandic house and techno released by that crew from obscurity at a well-chosen moment to critical acclaim this year. Arias is a furious digger for lost gems of 1990s and early 2000s techno and house, and his collaboration with the Thule artists has revived their careers as well as moved his forwards much more strongly than before. He's no new face though; as half of Algo Rhythm with Sequencias head JM de Frias, the pair was responsible for early bookings of artists such as Madteo, Marcellus Pittman, DJ Sotofett, Aaron "Fit" Siegel, Hieroglyphic Being, and more, and they shared the stage with DVS1 for Anthony Parasole's Boundless. It will be his debut at Bossa Nova Civic club, and past experience tells us he'll know exactly what to do when he steps into one of Brooklyn's busiest DJ booths.
Hound Scales and Divvorce are two recently-emerged techno DJs and producers who have been rapidly gaining momentum since RA nominated their Fifth Wall Records imprint Label of the Month in December 2013. That's all very recent history of course, but it is now 10 releases in and has featured names like Physical Therapy (Hippos in Tanks) and Clouds (Turbo, Soma) and continues to turn heads. Divvorce and Hound Scales managed two releases each so far on Fifth Wall, and Hound Scales has recently launched his own White Asega imprint with a solo EP featuring remix work from UK duo the Forward Strategy Group. Both artists have been appearing with increasing frequency at Bossa Nova and elsewhere, but we're pleased to welcome them to Industry of Machines for the first time and have had our eyes on them already for months.
Pure Matrix also has been around the Bushwick blocks for a considerable period with appearances at 285 Kent, Fitness Gallery, and other sadly-departed DIY venues. While his music can adequately be described as techno, we feel this description falls a bit short and would slot it in more squarely with the resurgence of EBM and dancefloor-focused industrial music that has been making waves worldwide. His music recently attracted the attention of L.I.E.S. head Ron Morelli, who slated him for an EP release that will be appearing very soon and gave us here at Industry of Machines "an excuse" to book another artist we've been watching for his first live PA set at Bossa Nova Civic Club.
