It is one you have to earn through years of breaking boundaries with your work. In the electronic music industry, there are only a handful of artists who can rightfully put their name alongside such a tag, and one person who can carry such an accolade is D. Ramirez. With a career stretching over 20 years as one of the world’s most respected names in electronic music, D. Ramirez is highly regarded as the driving force behind the tech-house sound that today’s music is built on. His career has seen him play to sell out crowds across the globe at some of the world’s most famous nightclubs. From holding residencies in some of the world’s most iconic clubs, such as the famous Sankeys in Manchester and Ministry of Sound in London – this November sees him starting his Pacha residency in London – as well as Ibiza’s super clubs, Space and Cream, and across the pond in Los Angeles and the city’s clubbing mecca, Avalon; the global dance music community can’t get enough of D. Ramirez and his underground sound. Add to that list his numerous guest appearances from Bali to Singapore, and from Russia to Brazil, it’s clear to see that D. Ramirez is a global icon. Inspired by the noises of his tough-talking DJ sets, his sound has been rejuvenated of late by deep house, house and techno. If you consider his meticulous DJ mixes where loops, tricks and FX are intricately laced with exceptional accuracy or his studio methods where he’s known to tinker with noises for days on end, this exploration of deeper genre seems a logical and natural progression. His work with Mark Knight and Toolroom Records has garnered critical acclaim, most famously with their collaborative track ‘Downpipe,’ which became an underground anthem around the world. From there, it made perfect sense to continue the Toolroom Records relationship, and D. Ramirez has, once again, raised the bar with his innovative, underground sound with his latest track, “Open Your Eyes,” which made its debut of Toolroom’s Amsterdam Compilation. As well as commercial success with high chart positioning hits and even an appearance on the famous BBC television music show, Top Of The Pops, D. Ramirez has also received a number of illustrious industry awards throughout his career as a producer, from places DJ Magazine (Best Producer and Best Remix 2007), iDJ (Player of the Year) and even an Ivor Novello nomination for his now classic remix of Bodyrox ‘Yeah Yeah’. With his remixes of Roger Sanchez – Lost (D.Ramirez Lost In Rave Remix), which was named as Pete Tong’s Essential new tune, Plump DJ’s – Electric Disco (D.Ramirez Mix), also an Essential New Tune along with Max Linen – The Soulshaker (D.Ramirez Mix), D. Ramirez had his industry peers tipping their hats to him. With his constant travelling between his home in the UK and the U.S., including time spent living in New York City, D. Ramirez, has been spending as much time in the studio as he has behind the decks. The past few years have seen collaborations with some of the city’s most legendary producers such as Todd Terry, Cevin Fisher, Harry Choo Choo & Jose Nunez. More recently his releases ‘Fragile Tension’ and ‘Tease Machine’ EP through Germany’s Great Stuff label, have caused a much deserved stir and further cemented D. Ramirez as a key figure at the forefront of fresh and innovative house. Other notable collaborations have been ice-cold house tracks with James Mowbray and Matt Tolfrey, plus two co-productions on the 2011 Underworld album ‘Barking’. Having launched his own labels, Vudu and Slave Recordings, as well as being signed to four:twenty, Good Times and, most recently, Toolroom, the D. Ramirez sound was heard from sound systems in clubs everywhere. Today, the D. Ramirez name is synonymous with the cutting edge of the electronic dance music scene. As one of the world’s finest and most prolific DJs and producers, he is a legend in the underground dance music movement that has now become a phenomenon it its own right and religiously followed by the clubbing faithful the world over. His productions are slicker than ever and his constantly evolving creativity will continue to push his sound to new heights in the months to come. The term “Pioneer” has never been so fitting… Weiss// Deep jacking grooves, warm rumbling subs, sweet sharp percussion, delicate vocal treatment… Whatever it is about house music that stimulates you the most, you’re guaranteed to find plenty of it on a Weiss record. After a spectacularly successful 2013, which saw Weiss being championed by the likes of Groove Armada, Loco Dice, Richie Hawtin, DJ Sneak, AFFKT & more; the hit single ‘My Sister’ premiering on B-Traits’ BBC Radio 1 show whilst staying strong in the Beatport top ten chart for over 4 months, & countless gigs all over Europe, its plain to see Weiss is here to stay. Inspired and infatuated with all forms of music; Kariya, Shades Of Rhythm, Kate Bush, New Atlantic, 808 State and Chic, Weiss invested his love and professional audio skills into his own body of work. Embracing house music’s rich heritage, the “Weiss City” series have proven to be a hit worldwide, even only after its second release fans have reached out from across the globe, infatuated with the Weiss sound. Following this the legend that is Green Velvet personally asked him to remix ‘Robots’, the result is another chart busting slice of house that has gained even more support from his peers. Stay tuned; As 2014 develops, so will Weiss’s profile. With a string of exciting projects, collaborations and hotly tipped releases on their way, expect nothing but the deepest jacking grooves, the warmest rumbling subs, the sweetest, sharpest percussion and most delicate vocal treatment... Cristoph// There’s a new kid on the block and he is starting to make quite a stir in the North of England. The hugely talented up-and-comer, Cristoph, is set to cause quite a storm in the world of dance music throughout the course of the next 12 months. Big things are expected from the young Geordie, whose DJ sets and productions range from Deep House to Tech House to Techno, intergrating heavy basslines with quality, uplifting melodies, appealing to a broad spectrum of fans. Brought up listening to his Fathers Motown vinyl and his older brothers Chicago and Detroit House cassettes, Cristoph’s love of music started at a young age and grew rapidly. After hearing productions by the likes of Masters at Work and Marc ‘MK’ Kinchen his interest in dance music was cemented. In his teens Cristoph messed around with instruments and different production equipment, but by the time he was old enough to experience club culture firsthand he made the realistation that DJing was the true vehicle in which to deliver his music. Over the past couple of years Cristoph has spent considerable periods of time sharpening his mixing and production skills and now he is reaping the rewards with recent bookings in Ibiza and across Europe for his DJing, and labels and fellow producers all starting to take note of his productions. Predicted by enthusiasts and industry pundits to have big things come his way, Cristoph is on his way to becoming the next shining star and settling himself alongside some of the great DJ’s and producers that England provides.
