The Gallery's 17th Birthday

  • Ministry of Sound is 17 years old this weekend and we are thrilled to be invited to help them celebrate this huge achievement and landmark in its already distinguished history. Having spent 13 years ourselves as a regular club night we know only too well how hard it is and what a testament it is to stay in this game for so many years. To help the celebrations of what looks set to be one hell of a weekend we’re inviting a bevy of names from down the years to come and do their thing at The Gallery all in the amazing surroundings of the Ministry of Sound. Treading the line between regular and well known Gallery faces from over the years and DJs and producers with history at the Ministry of Sound as well - we‘ve brought together a right bunch of legends for Friday 12th September, without further ado may we present The Gallery at Ministry of Sound’s 17th Birthday Weekend… Headlining this birthday extravaganza is none other than one of the leading names in the history of dance music. Quite simply he is one of the original, still one of the best and the man who played ‘Let It Be’ at the last weekend of Turnmills… be upstanding for Danny Rampling. From his early rave parties at Shoom to the Lovegroove Dance Party show on Radio 1 via his cult residency at Turnmills with Metrogroove and London Calling, Danny Rampling has lived and breathed house music his whole life. He’s also graced the decks at MOS on a few exclusive moments throughout their own rich history and we felt he was the right man for the job this evening. Standing some 6ft 6 tall (nicknamed ‘Tall Paul’ by Hooj Choons boss Red Jerry) Paul is literally the man who towers over The Gallery and all it does. Setting the night up with his brother Danny; Paul has gone onto be one of the ‘International Superstar DJ’ elite, the world over. Whether it be producing tunes such as ‘Rock Da House’, his Camisra guise with ‘Let Me Show You’ or remixing INXS – ‘Precious Heart’ to being a regular the world over at every leading club and festival to mixing leading compilations for Ministry of Sound such as The Annual to running Duty Free Records to presenting his show on Kiss 100; Paul is one of those DJs who can fairly claim to have been there, done it and got the T shirt. Guaranteed to be dusting off some of the anthems from over the years and with his prescience unrivalled behind the decks he will whip the Box into one of those Paul frenzies that only he can provide. Not half! Seb Fontaine has been part of The Gallery family since the very beginning; indeed Seb and Paul commanded the Kiss airwaves together on Saturday nights before his move to Radio 1. Involved with huge tracks such as Hands Burn – ‘Good Shot’ and Reflect – ‘Need to Feel Loved’ he also ran the infamous Spot On records. A massive figure in the world of dance music; Seb has always been a welcome figure at Gallery and is yet another leading name to add to the main room Birthday celebrations. Gallery residents Gavyn Mytchel and The Viceroy provide the newbie twist that the Gallery has always strived hard to showcase and will be doing their thing and of course holding their own alongside the world-class legends in the Box; providing the perfect warm up and end of night finale respectively for this huge occasion The Bar welcomes another world class selection of DJs including headline action from Mark Moore (he of S’Express fame) who is a welcome addition alongside long term resident at The Cross and amongst many other notable jobs one of the forces behind the huge Manifesto Records, Luke Neville. Steve Lee has been at The Gallery since day one and for eight years defined the 6am set and in the process became a hero amongst the Gallery faithful. Now a regular and incredibly popular figure in the Bar with his more Balearic vibe it would not be right to not have Steve ‘The Legend’ Lee doing his thing, bring it on!!. Clockwork Orange main man and Ibiza legend Andy Manston returns to give us a taste of the stuff that made Clockwork Orange into one of the biggest brands on the planet whilst Mark Myers gets the room off to the perfect start. The Baby box welcomes Retro and its head honcho Paul Taylor for one of his usual run down of all things, well, Retro for 5 hours. Expect the usual bevy of classics and dancefloor greats served in the usual Retro style. Should be marvellous! The lounge meanwhile welcomes Minimal who are represented by The Quirk Burglars, Shepz, Akeel, Lewis N and Dom Young.
