Slowly but steadily building a reputation as one of the UK’s finest purveyors of atmospheric broken Tech House sophistication, Midland has amassed himself quite the collection of pedigree offerings over the course of the last 4 years, making him somewhat of a veteran by todays Johnny-come-lately standards. Slinking into view via the utterly exceptional Ramandan-collaberating ‘Your Words Matter’ on Will Saul’s AUS Music imprint, Midland has since gone on to treat us to everything from smudgy 2-step Garage propulsions, crispy African tinged electro-technoid percolations and even some industrially pressurised warehouse stompers. Whatever it is, it’ll sure as hell boast the meticulously tinkered craftsmanship that could only be the work of one very divisive producer.
Having now racked up no less than 4 releases (6 if we’re counting remixes!) via the extensive and highly refined AUS Music institute, Midland has evidently found himself a very comfortable fit amongst the protagonists of the UK’s cutting edge underground roster. Taking inspiration from many of his entrepreneurial contemporary’s, last year saw him launch his own Graded label, providing a platform for what have so far been some of Midland’s rudest and most rugged flexes to date, employing broken beat and off-centre polyrhythms alongside outernational intonations and bumping b-lines to devastating effect.
Alongside him will be a man who knows all about entrepreneurial spirit, as well lethal riddims for that matter, being one of the main men behind the world concurring Boiler Room venture – Nick Tasker. Besides manning the counter at London’s mighty Phonica record emporium, co-running the infamous Principle party series in the capital as well as hosting his very own ‘88 Transition’ radio show on the magnificent NTS Radio, Tasker is first and foremost a wicked selector. This surely comes as no surprise considering the man is one of the main music programmers working at the Boiler Room, helping to make it out-and-out one of the most aware and diverse musical platforms on planet earth.
