Dance Off is a happening aiming to combine DJing with live performance in London's west end, the centre of the metropolis, in an edgy, and exciting manner.
In post-modern times live music and recorded music have often been wrongly viewed as in competition with each other, but they can so easily contrast, combine and enhance each other's dynamic edges. We remain restricted only by lack of ambition, and 'Dance Off' encourages the idea that whether as djs or as artists, we can play what we like, to both challenge and cajole the audience into celebrating the dance of life at its' most musically ambitious.
As Soul II Soul said back in 1988, "it's all about expression"..a liberating concept in the most malleable of minds, whether DJ, curator, artist, dancer, appreciative connoisseur, or adrenalin-fuelled youngster, such as we will freely invite to participate in 'Dance Off'. This is an open event for the open-minded where we collectively aim high in the sky, and end up very nearby.
Heavenly Social
Nearly 20 years ago The Social was born just up the road from our current home on Little Portland Street. Back then, it was a thirteen week run of Sunday evening sessions in the basement of the Albany; glorious chaos, week in week out. The Heavenly Sunday Social was the Chemical Brothers first London residency (they were the Dust Brothers then); support came from the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Tricky, Tim Burgess, David Holmes, Justin Robertson and many others. There was no genre, just good music. Eighteen months later, the Social took over legendary subterranean venue Turnmills (RIP) for three years every week before opening its doors on Little Portland Street in 1999.
