テクノ界における真のアンダーグラウンド・ヒーロー、ファンクション。Regisとの最狂ユニット「SANDWELL DISTRICT」は、ハード~ディープ・ミニマルの雄として、現在のインダストリアル・テクノシーン最高峰に掲げられる存在である。
ニューヨーク出身の彼は、90年代初頭にJeff MillsがLimeligntで初めてレジデントDJを務めていた頃からテクノの魅力に心を奪われていった。90年代半ばには制作活動を開始し、DamonWildが主宰するレーベル＜Synewave＞や自身のレーベル＜Infrastructure＞から勢力的に楽曲をリリースするようになる。そして、Regisと共に「Portion Reform」として活動し、＜Downwards＞より全く妥協のない楽曲を次々と発表。レーベルにおけるバーミンガム出身者以外で唯一の外国人プロデューサーとなるまでの地位を築いていく。
2007年12月にはベルリンに拠点を移し、自身のEP「Isolation」は『DJ Mag』の”レコード・オブ・ザ・マンス”を獲得。Regisと設立した＜Sandwell District＞レーベルでは、Regis/Kalon、Silent Servant、Female、IanRichardsonといった面々の作品をリリースし、インターネット上のダンスミュージック・バイブル『Resident Advisor』では”レーベル・オブ・ザ・マンス”も獲得する。Marcel Dettmann、Ben Klock、Sergeon、James Ruskinなどからも絶賛される彼の立体音響サウンドは、ダビーかつアブストラクトな質感でハメるドープ・ミニマルからハードでソリッドなコンクリート・テクノ、更にはディープでスペーシーな世界が広がるダーク・ミニマルなど、プリミティヴなアナログ感を貫きながらも圧倒的な世界観を醸し出している。

It's the absolute height of industrial techno - FUNCTION, one of the insane masterminds behind SANDWELL DISTRICT, comes to Origami! He's one of the underground heroes of electronic music, teaming up with fellow hero Regis to form SANDWELL DISTRICT and rule the world of industrial techno by pumping it out hard, deep and minimal.
This native of New York found himself drawn into this world by none other than the iconic Jeff Mills during his residency at Limelight, and he's never looked back: he's produced with Damon Wild's label Synewave, churning out energetic and forceful tracks, before teaming up with Regis on "Portion Reform" and "Downwards" to produce uncompromising music that the crowd just can't resist.
Having moved to Berlin in 2007, he received plaudits for his EP Isolation while working with Regis on their joint label SANDWELL DISTRICT to produce the work of such names as Silent Servant, Female and Ian Richardson. This has gotten them much acclaim as a label, including from Resident Advisor, not to mention that their work has been greatly praised by the likes of Marcel Dettmannm, Ben Klock, Sergeon and James Ruskin. Expect some sublime, dark, spacey sounds from FUNCTION that will put an interesting spin on your view of things
