As a duo, they run the Use of Weapons record label which, despite being only 4 releases old, is already widely acclaimed and supported by the likes of Gilles Peterson / Jimpster / Mark E / Ame / Francois K / Laurent Garnier / Rub n Tug / Tornado Wallace / The Revenge / Nicholas / Tim Sweeney / DJ Deep and many more Chris is one of those DJs that always has the capability to make you move without playing the most obvious tracks. He has a record selection better than most, so expect the finest quality dancefloor music. He is not to be confused with the Chris Barker who writes for Future Music or the one who played football for Barnsley. https://soundcloud.com/deepspaceorchestra *** POOKY // Styles Unlimited *** After the set Pooky put on at the first Down To Funk party in November, it was an easy decision to bring him back for this bash with Pagoda. Born and bred in his beloved Heswall (birthplace of a certain John Peel, he realised early on that with the arrival of hip hop, and the newly emerging dance cultures that this was the only path for the rebellious budding DJ. In 1988 at age 17, he bought his first pair of Technics and prized Gemini Jazzy Jeff edition mixer. With a love for open music policies coupled with the newly created craft of the scratch DJ, he set off on his own open minded path which he still treads today with the same love and enthusiasm. With virtually no genre left untouched he constantly explores new sounds and regularly dives back into his vast collection. Pooky also spent nearly three years on Juice FM with some of the most eclectic weekly mix shows the country ever heard but was chucked off for playing music that was just too ahead of it's time and having too many ideas. https://soundcloud.com/adam-speechly-aka-pooky *** Barney Rosenthal // PAGODA *** Barney is our resident DJ at Pagoda, and nice guy to boot. He has a soft spot for his raw, funky disco and laid-back soul grooves. But don’t be surprised to hear some jackin’ house beats from our main man Barney, as he can get the party started like nobody else! Whatever your taste, Barney is sure to put you in the mood for some boogying’. *** Alex Large // DOWN TO FUNK *** XL is more than a DJ, more than an artist. Mr Large is a sculptor whose preferred medium happens to be good vibes and funky beats. I couldn't even tell you what to expect from one of Alex's sets…. all I know is it will come in large (and that it will be mostly disco and funky house with the odd soul number)
