  • Sheffield Techno Institute enters 2015 with our 30th edition. Come down and celebrate with us! Joining us for an extended session are none other than Sheffield techno veterans The Black Dog and Winston Hazel. The Black Dog [unter-ton/dust science] The Black Dog have been at the forefront of electronic music for years, yet have never lost touch with their Sheffield past and remain firmly rooted in the city, as does their sound. 2014 saw the 25th Anniversary of seminal hit (and STI classic) Virtual, while songs out of their vast back catalogue appear in the sets of artists playing across the spectrum of house and techno. Not ones to rest on their laurels, tBD continue to put out music at an impressive rate, including releases on Dust Science and Unter-ton. They've also been busy designing MIDI controllers, curating Electronic Supper Club and playing regularly in Europe's most prestigious clubs. These guys tore up the floor when we last had them play and we are delighted to welcome them back to the intimate confines of TNK Basement. Expect bleeps, bangs, bass and- of course- magick... Winston Hazel aka The FMG [warp/kabal] Winston Hazel has been a fixture in Sheffield music for just as long. One half of Forgemasters, he helped pioneer the sound of bleep techno and brought out the first ever release on Warp Records- The Track With No Name. He is also an infamous underground promoter and resident for two of the best parties Sheffield has ever seen, Jive Turkey and Kabal. Still busy producing and playing, he was a part of the Sheffield Boiler Room special and has recent releases on Shabby Doll and as part of the Sensate Focus series with Mark Fell. We are delighted to have such an influential member of the city's musical history down for his long overdue STI debut and can only guess what gems he'll bringing along from a quarter century of record collecting. Support will be supplied by your inimitable team of residents Randy Lahey, Terry Dragatis and Cellar Dweller, and you can expect the usual excesses as regards smoke, strobes and lazers. See you down there Love STI x
