Like the Salsoul Orchestra, Double Exposure, Instant Funk and Inner Life, Salsoul Spankin was one of the musical band projects of the legendary Salsoul Records.
Way ahead of its time, the band has been credited with being the first 5-piece boy band ever (the Jackson 5 disqualified here as Michael refused to admit he was a 'boy').
Regrettably Salsoul Spankin disappeared as quickly as they appeared on the scene, as neither of the boys could sing, dance or play an instrument, and Tyrene, the youngest, once got caught taking pictures of Loleatta Holloway on the loo. Another factor was that for a 5-piece boy band they were insufficiently equipped, as there actually were only three boys in the band
