Pioneering electronic artist Richie Hawtin visits Amoeba Hollywood for a guest DJ set and to sign copies of his new album, "From My Mind To Yours."
To mark their 25th anniversary, Plus 8 Records releases "From My Mind To Yours," an album featuring new music from label co-founder Richie Hawtin. Reflecting the forward-thinking ethos of the sound of Plus 8, the album collects tracks recorded over the past few months by Hawtin. The album features a variety of aliases under which he has previously recorded, including Plastikman, FUSE, and Robotman.
Plus 8 began in 1990, the brainchild of two Canadians, Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva.
A label which quickly established itself at the forefront of the underground scene in Detroit, Windsor and the mid-West, it rapidly became globally recognized as a resolutely independent, fiercely determined and pioneering Techno label.
Relatively dormant as a label since 1997, although it has occasionally re-surfaced to release compilations and license tracks, it nonetheless continues to be held in very high regard: a seminal Techno label on which many of the scene's leading figures, including Kenny Larkin, Daniel Bell, Speedy J and Ken Ishii, released their debuts.
Hawtin and Acquaviva would go on to co-found the online dance music portal / retailer, Beatport. Hawtin would later establish M_nus, a label releasing some of the most exciting and minimalistic electronic music of the past few years.
Never one to rest on his laurels, over the past decade Hawtin has firmly established himself as one of the world’s most progressive, prolific, and diverse electronic artists.
From his innovative ENTER. nights at Space, Ibiza, to his collaborations with Turner-prize winning artist Anish Kapoor and Italian choreographer Enzo Cosimi for the 2006 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony. To a series of lectures around American universities in 2012 & 2015 educating about his vision of electronic music under the CNTRL banner. And with the Plastikman live show at the Guggenheim in New York he has remained true to his core ideals while continuing to explore the possibilities of what can be achieved with technology.
