Dusky - Live
London’s Nick Harriman and Alfie Granger-Howell aka Dusky have announced the debut of their new electronic live show, here at Village Underground on 16 April.
“ Over the past few years, our releases have focussed very heavily on the various club-ready strains of our sound in tandem with our DJ sets. But as artists, we’re constantly exploring the outer edges of what Dusky represents and taking influence from our wider tastes and musical histories. Not all of the music we’ve been making necessarily fits into our standard DJ sets, but all of it has a deep connection with electronic music and the dancefloor culture that surrounds it, which is what led us to conceive our live show. The soundtrack to our promo video above is a taste of some of the broader musical sound worlds that make up the show, but we’ve also been working on live versions of the music we’ve released to date.” Nick and Alfie, Dusky
The Dusky project began life in 2011 with the critically acclaimed 'Stick By This LP’ on Anjunadeep, named as an album of the year by Radio 1’s Pete Tong, but it was with a flurry of scene-spanning underground singles that the duo firmly established themselves with tracks like ‘Flo Jam’ on Alex Arnout’s Dogmatik, ‘Calling Me’ on Loefah’s School imprint and ‘Careless’ on Will Saul’s Aus.
From there, the story continued with the launch of their own imprint 17 Steps in 2014, as the duo developed their unique melting pots of the anthemic and the atmospheric, with nods to everything from jungle (‘Inta’) and Belgian rave (‘Jilted’) to festival techno (‘Parakeet Feet’) and classic piano house (‘Yoohoo’).
Currently working towards their second artist album, the Dusky Live show represents the next step in their ongoing evolution as artists and upholds the tradition of great British dance duos such as Leftfield, The Chemical Brothers and Orbital.
