The last twelve months have seen Avant Garde bring the likes of Dixon, Apparat, Trentemoller, DJ Koze, Christian Loffler, Pional and Caribou to London, bringing a signature, melodic, electronica sound to special venues across the capital. We heard, though, that there’s another city that rivals the big smoke for the passion and breadth of musical knowledge of the clubbers: Liverpool. We also heard about a venue in the city, The Garage, that has hosted the likes of Rodhad, Drumcell and Gilles Peterson in recent months and perfectly fits our requirement for big sound and imposing atmosphere; this made up our minds to hit the M6 and throw our inaugural Avant Garde Liverpool event this June.
The headline act for this event is someone who has almost single-handedly designed his own sub-genre of techno, not to mention finishing second in RA’s Top Live Act poll of 2015. RECONDITE, the Dystopian melancholia master, will be performing his highly tuned live set as our headline act on the 3rd of June. Recondite’s meteoric rise comes from his perfectly mixed productions; his discography reads as a who’s who of forward-thinking labels, with releases on the likes of Life & Death, Innervisions, Hotflush and Ghostly International. His association with the Dystopian collective, which boasts luminaries such Rødhåd, Vril and Ø [Phase], and live performances across the world showcasing his emotional techno, mean that 2016 will only be bigger and better for Lorenz Bunner.
Our next act has a similarly prolific list of labels under his belt, with his productions gracing the likes of Kompakt, Pampa, Freude am Tanzen, Vakant, Ghostly International and Monkeytown. We’re delighted to have ROBAG WRUHME, a purveyor of the melancholic yet banging side of techno and renowned for his outstanding productions and outside-the-box remixes, joining us at the Garage. His wonderfully warped productions have been charted and played by the biggest names in the scene; expect his set to be an adventure into just how beautiful techno and electronica can be…we know it’s going to get deep, weird, profound and just a little bit special.
KRIS DAVIS is a man very much on the up at the moment, his last release ‘Petroleum’ on Connaisseur Recordings reaching the upper echelons of the electronica charts and upcoming releases on Loffler’s Young Alaska imprint merely suggestions of the trajectory the Portsmouth-based producer is on. We welcome him back to Avant Garde after his stand-out set on New Year’s Day after Dixon.
No Avant Garde event lineup would be complete without our residents: RABOTA and the TROUBADOUR join us and will bring their acclaimed warm up and close down sets to The Garage.
