Tim Sheridan got his first industry break in 1988 via The Utah Saints, recruited to DJ with their collective and work on promoting raves in the north. Tim also worked on early electronic music in Parkside Studios in Leeds alongside legendary indie artists such as Cud and The Wedding Present. The Utah Saints went on to global success, at their peak supporting U2 on stadium tours and the first act to use turntables on Top of the Pops. Tim went his own way as a DJ and himself became an international name over a 30 year stint behind the decks and in the studio.
Along with the Utahs he formed a KLF-style situationist outfit called Dope Smugglaz and was signed by DJ megastar Paul Oakenfold to his Perfecto label. They went on to tour around the globe supporting Paul. They scored a number one dance single and appeared on TV, headlined venues and festivals worldwide. Their second single was ‘A’ listed in advance by Radio One for 9 weeks, a first at that time. Tim also directed all the band’s videos and was the first director to use the now standard ‘motion capture’ technique in a pop promo.
Tim has been the resident DJ for global superclubs Cream, Home, Manumission Ibiza, Ministry of Sound, Space Ibiza, Turnmills, The Key and Matter and for some years toured constantly in the gaps between resident obligations. He remains the most frequently booked guest at the UK’s longest running club ‘Back to Basics’ and similarly at Mr. C’s world famous Superfreq parties. He’s been the headliner at every major venue in the world and by the millennium had appeared at nearly every festival.
Tim co-founded the Kiss FM radio network outside of London, taking it to the rest of the UK in the late 90s. Establishing for the first time a regional network competitive with the monopolies of the nationals. It was so successful it lived only 2 years before being bought outright by a large media corp for a record sum.
All during his career Tim has written extensively. In particular for iconic magazine Jockey Slut as well as Muzik, 7 magazine, DJ magazine and is currently exclusive to Mixmag for features. Mixmag is the biggest dance industry publication in the world by some margin to this day. Tim was also at the forefront of the online revolution, and as well as kickstarting influential early forums he helped found Ibiza Voice, a global leader in online dance music coverage.
It’s Ibiza Tim is best known for. Working there seasonally his whole career and living there full time for some years. He took the island by storm in 2003 with his Nastydirtysexmusic beach parties and went on to tour the concept globally. The brand helped revive the fortunes of Ministry of Sound and became the venue’s flagship event until Time Out recognised it in 2006 as the number one New Years Eve event of the capital. Tim felt it correct to go out on a high note and closed it the day after. The associated live album recorded at Ministry went on to be a number one around the world.
After decades of touring and rock ’n’ roll lifestyle Tim took a step back for health reasons and went on to concentrate on his record label. Veryverywrongindeed or VVWI was a great success at the crux of the change to digital, and still books out large venues as an event to this day. VVWI recently celebrated 10 happy years with a huge gig at Ministry of Sound, Halloween 2015.
Tim’s studio work spans many years and styles and in many guises. He’s remixed Moloko, Finitribe, Brand New Heavies, Arthur Baker and Talvin Singh amongst many many others. He’s worked with classical composer Rhys Chatham at the Royal Festival Hall and recorded with Happy Monday’s frontman Shaun Ryder as well as legendary folk hero Howard ‘Mr Nice’ Marks. In terms of the underground scene the work is literally too numerous to list on one page.
Tim lives in-between Brixton, the internet and the Yorkshire Dales.
