Dismal Niche (est. 2013 Columbia, Mo and Chicago) is a small batch artist operated tape/record label and community arts network. Dismal Niche is a labor of LOVE committed to facilitating and archiving the expression of both the traditional and more esoteric accents of our local music and arts community.
For our second festival we will once again host around 20 bands/artists over the weekend - including both local and regional artists as well as established national and international artists whose work has helped to inspire and shape the world of experimental art and music. We hope for the festival to be a celebration of a thriving local and regional arts community by way of a thoughtful showcasing of experimentation with art, music, theory and action.
This event will take place in a variety of venues in the downtown Columbia area: Cafe Berlin, Eastside Tavern, Rag Tag/Uprise Bakery, and Stevens College Chapel.
Laraaji
Headlining the festival will be world renowned artist Laraaji, who will do 3 performances during the festival, one of which will be his Laughter Meditation Workshop. Ambient and New Age pioneer Laraaji (aka Edward Larry Gordon) has been utilizing music as a rich and listenable healing tool since his the late 1970s where his "Day of Radiance" collaboration with Brian Eno. Since then Laraaji has amassed a voluminous and influential catalog of bright, celestial solo releases and has linked with contemporary New Age celebrants like Blues Control and Sun Araw.
