This year our annual DJ marathon has grounds for more than just moving in from the cold. We’ve given it over to a cause very close to our heart and one, which has sent us more than a winters chill. This month we woke up to the terrible news that Fabric will remain closed. In a kangaroo court, at the request of The Metropolitan Police in London, Fabric had her licence revoked on a cocktail of hearsay, presumptions, and misplaced responsibility. There is no denying that there have been tragic incidents, relating to young people who have attended Fabric, but the picture painted of a venue unable and unwilling to confront the issues at hand, is not one we, nor anyone close to the venue, recognise. Indeed, this is still the venue that a judge last year described as 'a beacon of best practice'.
The moral panic surrounding electronic music is all too familiar as is the willingness to rip the heart out of our Fabric for a fistful of dollars. But we are encouraged by Fabric's decision to take the fight to the courts. This could be a case that will reverberate well beyond English shores. We stand by Fabric, and we will join this fight! This year, our annual 'end of the summer season DJ marathon’ will be dedicated to #saveourculture, with 75% of all door takings going directly to the campaign.
