The Third Wave by Alvin Toffler published in 1980, describes human history and while it is complex and contradictory, it can be seen to fit patterns: three great advances or waves. UN:Filter presents for one night only a techno opera in three acts performed alongside a video project telling the story of mankind on earth.
Act One | Connie (UN:Filter, ReSolute)
The First Wave: The Neolithic Revolution
The first wave of transformation began about 10,000 years ago, when a woman planted a seed and nurtured its growth. The first aria by UN:Filter resident and ReSolute veteran, Connie, is a reflection of these times where the age of agriculture began, people moved away from nomadic wandering and began to develop culture.
Act Two | Mikhail Pruidze (Live) (Dysent)
The Second Wave: The Industrial Age
The second wave was an expression of machine muscle. Classically trained in both piano and Georgian folk music, Misha (Live) will dedicate an intermezzo performed on on machines to the Industrial Revolution that began in the 18th century. His sound interprets the perfect balance between raw and melodic and his thoughtful soundscapes will tell a story for those on the floor of the clash of smokestack juggernauts culminating with the explosion of the atomic bombs over Japan.
Act Three | Donor (Stroboscopic Artefacts, Semantica, Prosthetic Pressings)
The Third Wave: The Information Age
Just as the machine seemed at its most invincible we began to receive intimations of a gathering third wave, based not on muscle but on mind. Donor is no stranger to delivering mind bending records and future thinking performances throughout the world including techno cathedrals such as Tresor, Movement Electronic Music Festival and we catch Donor a week before his return to Klubnacht at Berghain. For this finale, he is creating a special set curated for the machine opera that will traverse through future space and time. Bravo!
