프로젝트 코리도는 미니멀한 구조를 탐구하기 위해 시작되었다. 점차 새로운 텍스처를 입혀가며 그 발로를 확장한 그의 음악은 주로 폴리리듬의 형태로 발현된다. 변조와 예기치 못한 리듬적 요소가 서로 화합을 이루기 시작했을 때 비로소 코리도의 토대는 확실히 정립되었다. 충돌하는 것처럼 보이는 오선지 위의 음표들을 연결하는 일과, 분리되는 것처럼 보이는 무대 위의 신체들을 연결하는 일은 동일한 마술의 양면이다. 우리는 여기에서 샤머니즘, 나아가 유명한 종교사학자인 미르체아 엘리아데가 언급한 바 있는 '종교적 황홀의 기술'을 떠올릴 수 있다. 주술사는 그의 북으로 영혼의 세계로의 복도를 여는 리듬을 창작해낸다. 그는 한 부족의 사람들을 화합시키며, 그 의식을 변화시키고, 황홀과 갈망의 파도를 유도해 내 큰 무리의 사람들을 동시에 춤추게 한다. 코리도의 댄스 플로어에서 무아지경에 빠져본 경험이 있는 그 누구라도, 파비안 켐페가 이 주술사의 전통을 재현해내고 있다는 사실을 입증해낼 수 있을 것이다. 이 현대판 폴리리듬적 주술사는 어둠을 밝음과, 수학적인 구조를 멜랑콜리한 하모니와, 영적인 암흑의 굴을 정신의 가장 밝은 상태와 결합시킨다.

The word corridor – or Korridor in Swedish – has different meanings in different contexts but it is always associated with performing a passage of some sort. It could just be a narrow hallway leading from one room from another, but even in that seemingly mundane form there’s some inherent mystique. A corridor is a peculiar room that’s not really a room at all, because a corridor is always designed to take you somewhere else. The prominent philosopher and mystic Emanuel Swedenborg (1688 – 1722) described “The Swedenborg Room” as a sort of (non)place where the spirits of the dead would pass through on their way to the afterlife; a corridor between life and death in which the dweller briefly would belong to both worlds, but never to the corridor itself.

However, Fabian Kempe is by no means a novice. He has been active within the music scene as a producer under various monikers for over 12 years. The paths have been winding but they all lead up to the defined philosophy of Korridor.
The Korridor project started off as an exploration of minimalistic structures but as that rabbit hole started to widen new textures appeared, often in the form of polyrhythms. When these shifting and unpredictable bits and pieces of rhythmical elements began to harmonize with each other, the foundation for Korridor was established. Connecting seemingly conflicting dots on a music sheet and connecting seemingly divided bodies on a dance floor are two sides of the same type of magic. A form of shamanism, more precisely – a “technique of religious ecstasy”, to quote the famed historian of religion, Mircea Eliade. With his drum, the Shaman creates rhythms that open corridors to the spirit world. He brings people together as a tribe, creates altered states of consciousness and induces waves of ecstasy and yearning that affect masses of moving bodies simultaneously. Anyone who has ever lost him or herself on a Korridor dance floor can testify that Fabian Kempe keeps this tradition very much alive. A modern polyrhythmic Shaman that combines darkness with light, mathematical structures with melancholic harmonies and spiritual black holes with the brightest states of awareness.
With his unmistakable trance-inducing sound, Korridor has hypnotized clubbers and electronic music aficionados all over Europe. Musical visits to North America has been made and an Asian tour is in the works. In other words, Fabian Kempe keeps creating passages in which he can move his music forward, creatively as well as geographically. Where these passages will take him in the end, nobody knows. And who is to say that Korridor is the last corridor? Fabian Kempe has been here a long time, but he’s just getting started.
