Shanghai's longest running techno night VOID teams up with upstart label Co:Motion to present a label showcase from Kontra-Musik. For a decade, the Swedish imprint has been active trying to challenge itself, its followers and also the rules of what it means to be an electronic music label.
"From the label's first records with Agaric in 2006, Kontra has intrigued by quietly recalibrating its coordinates every handful of releases. Its minimalist origins bled into raw, purposeful techno, then flipped towards deep Detroit tones when not unearthing Moondog-inspired house, while Scuba, Shed and Jus-Ed queued up to remix the label's original material."
Ulf Eriksson, who runs the label, is humble. "It's very strange actually that I manage to get all of them," he says of the label's catalogue of remixers: Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, A Made Up Sound, Anton Zap, Silent Servant and more.
TM404 aka Andreas Tilliander, one of its main artists, is an acid machine genius. Check his live performance videos for an idea - he made us dance our socks off with strange evolving jams last time in Shanghai, years back with shows at both YYT and the Shelter.
