Despite their diverse styles, these three legends all have one thing in common: Each has a sound rooted in dance music’s rich history. Chicago’s Rahaan is something of a DJs DJ, infusing his sets with synapse-tingling, disco-tinged heat; Detroit’s Mike Huckaby fuses the otherworldly sound of his hometown’s techno with the jacking strut of Chicago house like few others; and London’s Steven “FunkinEven” Julien released one of last year’s best clubland records, the multifaceted Fallen. Bar Schimmi, meanwhile, hosts a trio of locals steeped in emotive electronics, with Analog Soul’s Jackie Sommer, Plan B Recordings’ Dakini9 and the Sublimate party’s Sagotsky all set to rock the box.
