Polaroid Bank Holiday Special

  • This Bank Holiday we bring you one of our best loved DJs. Rory Phillips has been a favourite of ours since first coming to our attention at his seminal Our Disco parties and unbelievably, this is his first gig at Polaroid. Quite why it’s taken us so long to invite him, we’re not sure but we deserve a big slap for being so slack. Also on the bill this month are Paul & Cred from Loose, a DJ duo who have recently come to our attention running delightful little parties in East London with the likes of Aeroplane, Ilija Rudman, Joakim, Pete Herbert and others… *********************** Having spent the best part of a decade re-defining London nightlife alongside Erol Alkan at the now legendary Trash (R.I.P) and bringing mutant disco to East London with Our Disco, Rory Phillips has built a solid reputation for parties that carve their own path while packing out the dancefloor. Continuing the tradition, Rory's raucous headline slot at Trash's successor Durrr and the joyful crate digging of SAY YES perfectly showcase his diverse and ever evolving musical style, showcasing the best in new music while constantly unearthing hidden gems from the past aided, of course, by his trademark telephone headphone. For two years now Durrr has been a London must for both party-goers and bands, having been the setting for key early performances from Late of the Pier, Dan Deacon, Lykke Li, Brodinski, The Proxy and These New Puritans as well as playing host to established party starters like Joakim, Whitey, Digitalism and Soulwax. Showcasing the dustier ends of their record collections, Rory and former Our Disco resident Nadia Ksaiba's SAY YES parties have provided a year of cheap sweaty disco fun in East London, being joined by similarly minded contemporaries like Zombie Zombie, Mock & Toof, Padded Cell and DJs from the excellent Strut and Dissident labels. Aside from his sets at the aforementioned nightclubs Rory has played to crowds all across Europe, Asia, The USA and South America, provided keyboard duties for Whitey and (most proudly) recorded a DJ session for the sadly missed John Peel Show. More recently his work has been of the studio variety, lending his remix and re-edit touch to records from Little Boots, Robyn, The Gossip, Chromeo and Franz Ferdinand while having the results played by the likes of A-Trak, Erol Alkan, Simian Mobile Disco, Riton and 2 Many DJs amongst others.
