Berghain and Panorama Bar are considered among the most renowned techno/house powerhouses in modern times though their influence extends beyond these styles. Just look at the catalogue of their in-house label Ostgut Ton, and you’ll see how much its musical path has covered the sonic spectrum. In contrast to the dark, minimalistic techno of the Berlin-based label’s leading figures like Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock, Ostgut Ton has also explored the warm, colourful edge of dance music and put out broken-beat rhythmic experiments.
Forcusing on this alternative side and the diversity of the label, Ostgut Ton has made an eclectic selection for its second showcase night at Contact: Martyn, a Dutch producer to whom Flying Lotus and Ninja Tune have given their seal of approval; Barker & Baumecker, who initiated Leisure System, one of Berghain's most experimental nights that has featured Autechre and the like; and Massimiliano Pagliara, a unique Italian DJ with an extensive knowledge in contemporary dance and choreography. Joining from Tokyo are Ostgut Ton's lone Japanese artist Gonno and revered ex-mnmlssgs blogger Chris SSG.
