- DJ Earl is an essential name in Chicago's footwork and juke scene. As a member of the Teklife crew alongside the likes of DJs Rashad, Spinn and Grant-Man, he was at the forefront of a style that reshaped dance music worldwide during the first half of the 2010s. Four years after the release of his critically acclaimed debut LP Open Your Eyes, he has returned with a second full-length, Bass + Funk & Soul.
In conversation with Martha Pazienti Caidan, Earl talks about the vibrancy of Chicago's music community, lessons in life and business from DJ Rashad and the complex relationship between artists and streaming services.
