The Peas bring a new level to what a vibrant, creative, politically conscious and socially aware act are all about. To see a group pushing the positive, inspirational powers of hip hop while also being true entertainers was exceptional…and all that with a full live band and skills-to-pay-the-bills turntable work.

Positive vibes flowed from the lyrics of the Peas’ trio of MCs (Will.I.Am, Apl.de.Ap, and Taboo) and at one point the whole crowd was hushed as one of the lads gave some thought provoking words of wisdom. Hip hop which leads by positive example, rather than grabbing dicks and giving props to violence, is definitely the way of the future.

‘When I make music I think, "OK if my son is going to listen to my records and be respecting me as a man I gotta pave the way for him and for the other kids." So they'll come up around the positive. Believe me, dude, I've been around the violence. I've seen the whole negative aspect, but I'm not gonna get caught up in it,’ explains Taboo.

It was a real arse-master to see a fight break out toward the end of the show given the message the Peas brought. However it seems violence is something one must confront whenever prime knob-jockeys are in attendance.

However what blew me away was the sheer energy and intense power the Peas live show exerted. In summary: Three berserk MCs busting the tidiest rhymes and break dancing moves, extreme guitar showdowns as the lads paid respect to their band, and frantic scratching and tough drum ‘n’ bass intros from their DJ.

‘The energy the band produces is as enormous as three emcees in the front jumping with the crowd, or the b-boying,’ explains Taboo. ‘It's all an energy that's unexplainable, because there is so much going on, it's not just the rapper coming on stage holding his nuts shoutin' "stop the cut, yo yo!" There's nothing wrong with that don't get me wrong I appreciate that most def, but the live aspect and energy that's something that you and the fans can feel.’

And in closing I’ll leave you with some ripe knowledge from the Peas:

‘Be yourself, whatever that means to you and look for more in life. Don't settle for only the information that is given to you about what you can accomplish mentally, physically or spiritually. There is a reason for everything in life. Sometimes the bigger reason is in the smaller things and the greater things in life are not things."
