Tayo is a huge fan of all things Australian. He loves playing here, this summer tour will be his 10th trip downunder.

RA caught up with Tayo before he boards a plane to head to Australia to discuss all things music, his label plans and even his big booty.

You have just signed Australian break beat group Nu-Breed to your label mob. How did this all come about?

I got Nu-Breed to do a mix for the label (mob010 - jasp 182 - "millennium dawn" and was aware of their stuff. I just thought they had a good album in them. they're very talented producers, and good guys aswell. I’ll be hanging out in Melbourne with them this summer.

This Nye sees you play alongside Nu-Breed and infusion both of which have been signed to labels overseas, how long do you believe it is before Australian’s such as these make an impact on the foreign market?

Hopefully not long...I’ve said in quite a few interviews recently that you've got some great producers over there. And great dj's. Maybe the fact that I and Adam Freeland have signed these two will help, but it shouldn't take something like that for you to realise what talent is there already - Phil k, kid Kenobi, chrome yellow productions, Ek, pocket - the list goes on.

This will be your fourth visit to Australian shores, what keeps bringing you back?

It’s the best scene for breaks in the world. I’ve had some of my fave gigs ever in Sydney, Perth, Byron, Melbourne - even Canberra... I’ve got good friends there, I seem to be appreciated and it beats the hell out of January in London, let me tell you.

In ten words or less how would you describe your sound?

I can do it in less than that - "breakbeat funk". Ask me tomorrow and I’ll say something different. actually just thought of another one - "boompty boomp breaks" - in honour of my favourite dj, derrick carter.

You released ride the funky on Rennie Pilgrim's tcr label earlier this year, can we expect more releases from this label in the near future?

I did a track with precision cuts on mob called "fire good", and I’ve just signed a track to Skint called "wicked dub" which I did with acid rockers. More releases will be on mob and Skint next year - it's one of my priorities. I’ve also just remixed Dave Clarke" the compass" and will do a mix for shut up and dance, atomic hooligan, Koma & Bones' forged label and more as soon as I get back from down under.

What would you say inspires you when producing music?

Prince, a love of dub and Derrick Carter.

Mob records will be releasing a compilation album in the near future, any hints on who will be working on it?

I mixed the album last week. I’ve signed some new artists so they are all on there - Klaus "heavyweight" hill, initial research, care in the community, Phil Kieran and Nu-Breed. There are also brand new mixes of old tracks - like the two Stanton warrior tracks.

What is your stance on the future of electronic dance music?

Don’t have a stance - it's there and always will be. Mind you, I heard some cool traditional Yugoslavian music yesterday - my taxi driver was a guitarist and was playing me some of his tracks. They were ace...

Many dj's and live acts take on different roles as performers. Some like to entertain, others educate, what role to you guys like to perform when on stage?

I want the crowd to have a good time, and I want them to like the tracks I like. There won't be any cheese and a minimal amount of hand pumping. I might shake my booty a bit though. It’s quite big.

What should Sydneysiders expect from your set at the Slip Inn this New Years Eve?

I’ve just mixed my new y4k and my mob compilation so I’ve got a box full of serious exclusives. Which I know the Sydney trainspotters will like...- and prince tracks, obviously. Hopefully it will be as good as last year.
