Yoshitoshi is one of the labels of the moment, recently clocking up its hundredth single release, and with the third part of the 'In House We Trust' series imminent their profile has never been higher. For this next instalment label meisters Deep Dish have turned to two up and coming DJs - Toronto's Luke Fair and Britain's Desyn Masiello. RA caught up with them over a dodgy tuna sandwich.

You've got a lot to live up to given the quality of the first two 'In House' compilations. How did you prepare for this one?
LF: Well it was a bit difficult to be honest, because with two double mixes already released that takes forty off the hundred available, and so it was tricky to choose the ones we really liked. I'm not hugely into the new stuff, but we were able to use the remix of PQM's 'U R Sleeping'. I'm really happy with how it's turned out though, much better than I expected. 'Night Visions' makes a perfect closing track, and if I could I would have used a few more.

How would you say the mixes differ?
DM: That's a tough one, cos we're both useless and haven't even heard each other's sets yet!

So what about describing them in one word only?
LF: Oooh....think the best word for mine is 'druggy'.
DM: I'll go for 'twisted'. Quite summery though, at the same time.

Both of you are heavily involved in production work so what can we expect to hear soon?
LF: I've just done a remix of a track called 'Solar Plexus', which has the most amazing ethnic vocal, for Sharam's new 'After Hours' mix on Global Underground. We signed the track and did a remix for a couple of friends. Also doing a track as The Idiots, with 16B and Neil Roberts, called 'Feel The Rush'. Danny Howells rated it as the biggest track of Miami. I try to spend a lot of time on what I do, quality rather than quantity. Sex On Wax is our new imprint, with some big big records - the two mentioned above and also looking to put out some John Creamer and DJ Vibe stuff.
DM: I'm doing a remix of 16B's 'Colours', off the new album, and I've got a couple of new originals just finished for Bedrock which should air in the next 6 months. I'm always working on new originals.

So how did the Global Underground administration affect yourselves and Deep Dish?
LF: I don't want to go into too much detail, but they went down owing a hell of a lot of money so when they sprung up again we all had no choice but to work with them. No-one's bitter about it though, and they're one of the most recognisable brands of compilation - it would be nice to see our stuff on there one day. I've not long heard the new Danny Howells mix, and it's the best thing he's ever done. I try to hear new stuff as much as possible, but Howells is totally obsessed, he has to have everything.

How are things in Toronto now?
LF: You mean with SARS and everything? It's a big media thing elsewhere, but for the people who live there no-one seems to care about it, especially now things have died down. For a while the numbers at the Government club were down by 500-1000, but it's all picking up now.

And you're planning a visit to Australia soon...
DM: That's right, Bullet are organising some stuff at the mo, hopefully for a September visit. We're keen to do it, they've got a great system in there.
