twenty four/seven

Twenty four hours in our world.

We've all had those clubbing moments we'll never forget. That perfect warm-up set. The familiar smell of the smoke machine. Finding your friends in the dark. A surprise sunrise at the afterhours. These experiences stay lodged in our minds and shape who we are. It’s these moments that inspire us to do what we do.

Throughout 2018, we've worked with some of the world's foremost collectives and crews to celebrate the world of electronic music. The extended, trippy daytime sessions, the chillout rooms, the techno dungeons—every part of the scene has its time and place, and we brought them all together.

In multi-roomed spaces across the globe, we curated a range of disciplines across six individual events, each lasting 24 hours. One day and one night. Local artists, live performances, films, installations, workshops, discussion and raves. Everything we love about electronic music, in one place.

Berlin, Germany

Our first twenty four/seven event took place at ://aboutblank in Berlin. When approaching the first event of the series, we knew there was a huge opportunity to do something interesting with the space. It's a maze of rooms and concrete, with a sprawling garden. Through a combination of mesh and curtain, we created a space for ravers to get lost in. Over the course of 24 hours, we hosted performances, discussions and films in an additional space in the garden, including the live AV debut of Pessimist & Karim Maas, a mind-bending set from Rebekah, an interview exchange with the OG vanguard of techno Dr. Motte and a surprise Sunday set in the rain from Kerri Chandler. We couldn’t take photos in the club, but here’s a selection from behind the scenes taken throughout the day

Bassiani

Tbilisi, Georgia

Second in the series was Bassiani in Tbilisi. For the first time in the venue's history, we made use of the entire building—which is located in the basement of Georgia's national football stadium—including opening up a balcony with views over the city for a terrace party in the sun.

With the club's recent history still looming, it was an honour to host panels discussing Georgian and international drug policy, along with a deeper dive into the history of Tbilisi's rave culture. We also debuted a live performance from Machine Woman and hosted a bespoke installation by local artist Keti Nadibaidze. Pushing us through hour 24 were residents Kancheli, Ndrx and Zitto, three locals playing back-to-back on home turf. Performing to a crowd of fans and friends, they had the room in the palms of their hands. It was clear they knew the soundsystem and space inside out. A set for the history books.

Nowadays

New York, USA

Nowadays in New York was the perfect club to execute exactly what we envisioned for the twenty four/seven parties. Using the venue's custom-built SBS soundsystem, we opened the doors for a deep listening session with Bing & Ruth, who performed live between sets from Maria Chavez and Josh Dunn. The blankets and cushions were soon pushed aside for a New York masterclass featuring Stud1nt, Adam X and Fred P. We teamed up with local zine Love Injection to discuss the history of New York nightlife in five parts, with each talk covering a different decade from the '70s to the present day. Participants included Tony Smith from Studio 54, François K, Luke Jenner from The Rapture and John Barclay from Dance Liberation Network. And as if that wasn’t enough, Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin, AKA Mister Saturday Night, were joined in the booth by special unannounced guest Four Tet for the closing hours of Mister Sunday, before the UK artist soundtracked the surprise after-after-party alongside Floating Points.

Milan, Italy

For our first-ever party in Milan, we took over the incredible BASE Milano, a cultural centre in the heart of the city.

We kicked things off in the techno rave cave with Freddy K and Paquita Gordon. Moving into the morning, we hosted a A/V ambient session-turned-house party with a 500-strong crew of morning dancers, imagine a house party in the craziest house you’ve ever seen. As the day stretched on, there was a selection of films and discussions with local publication Soundwall, and an intimate dance session in an entirely new part of the building. Finally, we moved outside for a sunset session with Young Marco and Mano Le Tough.

Bogotá, Colombia

For our first-ever event in Colombia, we linked up with Video Club. For this leg of the series, we flipped the format on its head, starting at 8 AM. Using Video Club's two floors, and incorporating a Salsa venue next door (El Titicó), we took people on a journey through the history of Bogota's club culture and beyond.

Proceedings opened with warm-up sets from local selectors, before a live performance from Mitú. Midland took control at midday and played in the afternoon sun until 5 PM. El Titicó saw a Voguing Workshop and an RA Exchange live with John Talabot, before the Spanish artist jumped on the decks and played until sunrise.

Melbourne, Australia

Australia is the spiritual home of Resident Advisor, which was founded in Sydney back in 2001. It's also home to a voracious party scene, so it was vital we celebrated twenty four/seven down under.

Working with local promoter Crown Ruler, we put together a lineup of local favourites and international guests at Revolver Upstairs, a venue well-known for its long, long, sessions. We hosted a debut Melbourne show from Red Light Radio founder Orpheu the Wizard, a live showcase from Butter sessions and two performances from Terre Thaemlitz—including one as DJ Sprinkles—plus the Melbourne premier of Deproduction with a live Q&A.
