In an effort to support the music we love, we've started a weekly Bandcamp roundup highlighting our favourite new releases available on the platform, as selected by our staff.

aidnq - Slow Notes For Enright

You might be familiar with aidnq, if not for his work with Truants then with Bandcloud, the weekly newsletter where he shares his favourite music from Bandcamp and SoundCloud, which is well worth checking out once you're done reading here. For this release on the techno and experimental label broken20, he steps into the producer's chair with the kind of release that would fit perfectly in his newsletter: DIY, ambient-leaning and strangely captivating. "I take samples and play around with them, hopefully ending up with something interesting," he says. The results are intriguing, somewhere between Jake Muir and Alessandro Cortini—greyscale washes of sound that cascade across the stereo spectrum and stutter, start and stop. (All proceeds go towards Inner City Helping Homeless in Ireland.)

Geeneus - Dump Valve Catalogue

Now here's something we didn't expect: Rinse FM founder and all-around UK dance music pioneer Geeneus uploading the catalogue from his Dump Valve label, featuring his own incredibly rare tracks—check out "Jamhot"—as well as early gems from Wiley ("Taplin," "Avenger"), Slimzee ("Log Off") and Danny Weed ("Combat"). A dose of grime and dubstep history.

The 343 Vol. 1

Belfast's 343 describes itself as an artist-focused, feminist-led, queer arts space, housing recording studios, a practice space, a radio station and more. The pandemic forced 343 to close, and now they're raising money for costs with this new compilation featuring a number of promising artists in the leftfield electronics sphere, including Cucina Povera (who contributes an amazing avant-garde ballad with Katie Shannon), R. Elizabeth (whose "Sanford Nine" sounds like a musique concréte tape spinning out of control) and killer weirdo techno from Internet Based Sex Work and Innocent Heretic.

Qilla Records - Artmosphere Vol. 1

A compilation of gently pulsating electronics from New Delhi imprint Qilla Records, Artmosphere delivers what the title promises. Highlights include Yidam's "Solar Winds," which contrasts sculpted-cloud synths with a buzzing, almost serrated bass lead, or mantris's jittery "Eruptions," which sounds like a 2-step track knocked off its axis.

Alejandro Mosso - Other Worlds

The latest project from Alejandro Mosso is inspired by Jon Hassell's Fourth World music, but made with state-of-the-art binaural audio technology. It's designed for headphone listening and it's a feast for the ears, as acoustic elements and electronic sounds swirl around your head, making melodies and rhythms with all the atmosphere of a dense rainforest. Thick and humid, the sounds come from all angles.

Duane Island - Edits Vol. 1

Don't let the title fool you—these three tracks are anything but simple edits. Like a more measured Girl Talk, Duane Island stitches together pieces of dance music history into joyous reveries, combining classic house with euphoric trance, piano house with jungle and so on. Put on "Prolong An Act Of Sympathy" and let the familiar sounds tickle all your nostalgic hotspots.

Night Sea - Still

This is Oakland duo Night Sea's first time releasing on the illustrious Silent Season label, but their sound—dub, techno, ambient—is tailor-made for the Vancouver Island imprint. The beats tend to be muffled and patient, while the melodies are propulsive but subtle. The way the duo build their backdrops, however, is the real prize here. They're definitely synths, but there's a naturalistic quality to how they float and decay in the background. It's similar to ASC's most recent ambient album on Silent Season, The Waves, and anyone who follows the label will know that's high praise indeed.

Proxy Merchants - Spirals Of Cassini / Many Moons

New Age with an outer-space twist, this longform, two-track record is for heads who are into recent work from Leaving Records and Matthewdavid's Mindflight... or Iasos, or Aeoliah... you get the idea. Inspired by the voyage of the Cassini, Proxy Merchants craft two ambient epics that build and unfold gorgeously, a veritable orchestra of synth drones and hums.

Lee Evans - Aphasic Forest

We've already mentioned forests, so here's something different: "biomimicry." Lee Evans tries to approximate the sound of the forest with electronics, but it's not as simple as it sounds—he uses generative technologies and improvisation to make something that truly feels alive, unpredictable and organic, full of bright, chirping sounds and comforting melodies.

quest?onmarc meets neana - Do U Like It ?? // Fantasii

This two-track project from Neana and quest?onmarc brings together two masters of club edits. Made between Berlin and New York, the EP sees the artists flip two hits from the early '00s: Ludacris's "What's Your Fantasy" and Britney Spears' "Slave 4 U." Bridging the gap between ballroom and UK funky, these floor-facing tracks are just what you'd expect from a natural pairing like this.

Christina Vantzou & John Also Bennett - Landscape Architecture

There's something slippery about the material that Christina Vantzou and John Also Bennett produce as a duo. It's chamber music that takes on board the underground movements of the last six decades. CV & JAB's latest album, recorded over three days in Brussels, is their most beguiling and bewildering work to date, a novel mix of textural drones and virtuosic piano.
