Mu is Mutsumi Kanamori. Appearing at Sónar 2005 on the back of the hit single 'Paris Hilton' from her second album 'Out of Breach', and follow up to 'Afro Finger and Gel'. Her live performances are a sonic assault of demented discoid punk and twisted beats, and unusually, aerobics. Chic disco punk.

As far as I can see you are a Sónar virgin what are you expecting from this year's festival?
I have no idea. I hope it's good.

Sonar is a truly international event – as a Japanese artist that is touring everywhere at the moment can you share any experience of electronic music in different countries?
I don't know about other Japanese artists that well, but when I go on tour in Japan, sometimes I see very funny people who have very originality. I love them. I'm looking forward to see my country's people!

What is your favourite festival memory?
I have only experienced a few festivals before. So after I experience those festivals in many different countries this year, I'll be able to tell you that!

Your live performances have a lot of energy and draw a great response from the crowd do you have anything special in store for Sonar?
It's a surprise.

The Sonar programme includes features on art, multimedia and technology. How do you think advances in these areas affect the music industry and the music you play?
I like beauty.

Sonar has a reputation for pushing new frontiers. What are you looking forward to catching at this year's festival?
De La Soul and Towa Tei.

"Q. How will you be spending your time
in Barcelona when not playing?
A. Sit-ups."

Finally, will you be launching any new music at Sonar this year? Can you give RA a heads-up on anything to keep an ear out for, or anything else on the horizon for you in 2005?
It's a surprise.
