  • Function has revealed plans to relaunch his Infrastructure New York label. Dave Sumner first started Infrastructure back in 1998 when he was living in New York. The label's hub was Inanimate Objects, the famous recording studio and performance space overlooking Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building in Manhattan. The label released Sumner's own early forays into techno as well as original tracks and remixes from the likes of Regis, Sleeparchive, Oscar Mulero and Christian Wünsch, before shutting up shop in 2006 as the Sandwell District project began to gather steam. Infrastructure also served as a production company, with Sumner organising the Substance events at New York club Limelight in the '90s (he also ran the Phono parties when the club changed its name to Avalon in the '00s). The relaunch of Infrastructure has been two years in the making, and the label has a year's worth of releases already in the pipeline. Sumner will run the label with fellow Berlin-based producer Ed Davenport. "The focus will be on melding classic ideals with a modern viewpoint," Sumner says. "This will come across not only in the music but in the way we are structuring the release schedule. It will not only be new releases but also a healthy serving of reissue packages and licenses." The comeback release is a collaboration between the Sumner and Davenport (with Davenport working under the name Inland). Due out in May, the A-side of Odeon/Rhyl is a rework of Photek's 2000 cut "Under The Palms." (You can hear it 44 minutes into his set at RA's party in London last December, which is streaming below). That will be followed by a debut release from Campbell Irvine, a 23-year-old classically trained producer from Australia. Irvine's Removal Of The Six Armed Goddess is slated for release in June, while a retrospective LP of Sumner's older work is also in the works. Sumner says he'll also put out records from Mariano DC, resident DJ at Cocoliche in Buenos Aires, as well as Adam X, Vatican Shadow, Altern8's Mark Archer, Luke Slater and Marcel Dettmann.
