- Dario Argento's horror flick will be reimagined with a new cast, director and soundtrack.
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke is scoring his first feature film, a remake of Italian director Dario Argento's 1977 cult classic, Suspiria.
As well as a new soundtrack, the remake, also called Suspiria, will feature a new director and cast, including Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson. Though this is Yorke's first OST, he has contributed music to films in the past, such as 1998's Velvet Goldmine. (He sang with Roxy Music as part of a cover band called Venus In Furs.) Yorke also composed the soundtrack for a 2015 Broadway-based production of Harold Pinter's Old Times. Suspiria's original score, composed by Italian prog rock outfit Goblin, was compared with Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" in The New York Times.
"Thom's art transcends the contemporary," says Suspiria director Luca Guadagnino. "To have the privilege of his music and sound for Suspiria is a dream come true. The depth of his creation and artistic vision is so unique that our Suspiria will sound groundbreaking and will deeply resonate with viewers. Our goal is to make a movie that will be a disturbing and transforming experience: for this ambition, we could not find a better partner than Thom."
Guadagnino's film, which as yet has no official release date, appears to closely follow the original plot, in which an American dancer enrolls at a German ballet academy. Chloë Grace Moretz also stars.
